Cat's claw: powerful natural remedy that strengthens the immune system against degenerative diseases

  • 2015

Cat's claw is a vine that grows in Peru. The plant is named for the pairs of large, hunched thorns that grow along the vine. Its scientific name is Uncaria tomentosa. Traditionally the inner bark and the root of the vine are used to make a medicinal tea.

It had been proven in different cases that Cat's Claw has the healing capacity in severe cases of cancer. Scientific research in universities in Europe and the US managed to confirm the preventive and curative qualities of this abundant plant of the Peruvian jungle in cases of cancer and leukemia. Indeed, the root and bark of this wild plant were already known by some indigenous tribes who used it very often in their healing. Campas, Ashaninkas and Amuechas subject the crust to cooking with water, which can then be taken both cold and hot. The components of the bark or the root of Uña de Gato are highly effective in stimulating the self-defense of the human organism, are anti-inflammatory and in larger doses also contraceptives.

Likewise in cases of AIDS (HIV) curative effects have been discovered by the consumption of Cat's Claw. Recent studies have indicated similar qualities with the cat's claw blade.

Cat's claw contains chemicals called oxindole alkaloids. A researcher named Klaus Keplinger, from the University of Innsbruck (Austria), patented some of these based on evidence of their effect on immune function. Keplinger has used cat's claw to treat some people with herpes or HIV.

Other studies showed that cat's claw also contains several types of alkaloids that affect the central nervous system. These alkaloids could act against free radicals that affect the immune system.

Peruvian natives use cat's claw to treat inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, to clean the digestive tract and to treat cancer. It has also been used to treat dysentery, recovery from childbirth, and hormonal imbalances in women.

In laboratory studies, cat's claw normalizes some functions of the immune system. It also seems to help reduce blood coagulation. In another study, cat's claw accelerated the healing of people with the herpes simplex virus (which causes mouth sores or genital herpes) and with the herpes zoster virus.

Properties of Cat's Claw:

Immunostimulant: this is due to the isomitrafilin and pteropodine alkaloids. It increases the phagocytic activity of neutrophilic and macrophage granulocytes, and stimulates lymphokine production. It also increases the number of monocytes in active phases in the peripheral circulation, up to 50%, at least after one week of treatment. Granulocytes increase their phagocytic power by 60% (Brand test with Zimosan particles) in the presence of extracts at 0.01%. There is no alteration in the proliferation of T lymphocytes under normal conditions, but there is an increase in the presence of antigens. It is useful in cancer, AIDS, systemic candidiasis, various herpes and Kaposi's sarcoma.

Anti-inflammatory: thanks to the quinóvicos glycosides. 15% higher than indomethacin. Useful in rheumatoid arthritis, various arthritis, bursitis, rheumatism, lupus and fibromyalgia.

Free anti-radicals: effective in inflammatory, cancerous, febrile conditions and in exposure to ionizing radiation.

Antimutagenic and cytostatic: action due to isorincofilina. Inhibits DNA polymerases alpha. Mitoses of H, L cells are reduced, while those of normal fibroblasts are not altered. Useful in cancer, avoiding metastases.

Antiviral: especially against encapsulated RNA-viruses. Useful against HIV AIDS virus, genital herpes and shingles, cold, sinusitis, otitis, vesicular stomatitis virus, conjunctivitis.

Detoxifying and resolving the digestive tract: it is very useful when conventional treatments fail in Crohn's disease, diverticulitis, colitis, hemorrhoids, fistulas, gastritis, ulcers, intestinal parasites, alterations of the intestinal flora, anal drip.

Antiallergic: useful in neurobronchitis, lupus.

Detoxifying environmental toxins: effective in chronic fatigue, organic depression, acne.

Anaphrodisiac for men, useful in prostatitis. However, Uncaria tincture is aphrodisiac because it does not suffer maceration at an elevated temperature. Decoctions, then, have an opposite effect, that is, anaphrodisiac.

Platelet antiaggregant: due to rincofilina. Prevents stroke, heart attacks, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, etc.

Regulator of the menstrual cycle.

Erythrocyte protective against toxic.

There is no recorded side effect of cat's claw use. Cat's claw should not be used by pregnant women, or by people with immune disorders such as multiple sclerosis.

Applications:

Asthma.
The recovery of childbirth and wound healing.
Joint pain
Stomach problems
Tumors
Birth control
As a technician to avoid diseases
Bone pain
Clean the kidneys.
Treat urinary tract cancer
Swelling
Cirrhosis
Gonorrhea
Diarrhea.
Muscle and joint pain
Irregularities in the menstrual cycle
Acne
Mushrooms
Wound healing
Nerve pain
It is also used to treat cancer, immunological disorders, diverticulitis, peptic ulcers, colitis, gastritis, hemorrhoids, parasites and bowel syndrome with escape.
It has been used with zidovudine (AZT) to treat HIV.
Cat's claw has a low toxicity. The juice of the stems and roots could strengthen the immune system. It should not be given to children, pregnant women or nursing women.

Adverse reactions:

High doses can cause diarrhea, low blood pressure, dizziness and bruising or bleeding gums.

Cat's claw may interact with some medications. Exercise caution when you are taking lovastatin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, fexofenadine and triazolam (Halcion).

Due to its content in tannins and bitter principles, it can cause gastric discomfort to people with hypersecretory dyspepsia, which can be prevented by administering it in the form of capsules.

Other actions:

Their immunostimulant and anti-inflammatory actions are currently considered tested. The anti-inflammatory effect is considered to be due to its ability to inhibit TNF alpha and to a lesser extent the production of PGE2.

Clinical trials demonstrate its effectiveness on joint pain in rheumatoid arthritis. This anti-inflammatory activity is greater if hydroalcoholic extracts are used, which show a slight inhibitory activity on cyclooxygenase 1 and 2.

Antiviral and stimulating action of phagocytosis. The regulatory factor of lymphocyte proliferation is stimulated by pentacyclic alkaloids and antagonized by tetracyclics.

In vitro studies show its protective activity against neuronal damage induced by glutamate. Total alkaloids (mainly oxindolics), have a beneficial effect on impaired memory due to dysfunction of cholinergic systems.

Stimulates DNA repair, mitogenic response and leukocyte recovery after chemotherapy treatment. Its possible antiproliferative effect is studied in breast cancer, in cell cultures.
