Powerfully draws attention to the recurring presence of witchcraft practice in different accounts of the Old Testament . Today, the Vatican criticizes these practices, although they are written in its own holy book.

It is in the Old Testament where a cruel God appears. A god that flooded the entire world with a flood and was able to burn entire cities, as is said to have happened with Sodom and Gomorrah.

He also ordered his angels to kill children, as recounted in the famous Seventh Plague of Egypt and in the narration of Moses himself.

Witchcraft practices in the Old Testament

  • Joseph: in Genesis it is written that Joseph manages to guess a dream of the pharaoh . The king of Egypt dreams of seven fat cows and seven skinny cows, which would bring seven years of good luck and seven years of bad luck to the kingdom.

In Genesis itself (44: 5) it is said that Joseph's father used a cup to guess the future .

  • Magic ritual : in the book of Numbers 5: 12-31, there is talk of a priest who practices a magical ritual with a woman to recover her husband, because he suspects that he is unfaithful.

Literally: “… and the priest will drink holy water in a clay pot; and he will take from the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle, and put it in the water. ”

The priest then recited prayers while cursing the unfaithful husband.

  • Magic stones : the Urim and the Tumim were two stones, it is believed that white, which were used to invoke God through a very strange ritual. They talk about them in the Pentateuch and mention that they were thrown to the ground as if they were given game.
  • Elisha the Magician : there is talk of Elisha in Kings 2: 23-24. Elisha was bald and one day when he was heading towards Bethel, some children made fun of him for the absence of hair.

Elisha cursed the children with a powerful enchantment and two bears appeared from the forest that shattered the children.

  • The prophet Daniel : was the main occultist of the King. He held the position of supervisor of all magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans and fortune tellers of the kingdom, Book of Daniel 5:11.

This is a peculiar testimony about those people who, believing in the Catholic God, are also regulars of occultism and witchcraft lovers, such as those mentioned in the Old Testament.

Ancient words linked to witchcraft

Many are the words found in the Old Testament, which have a magical meaning and that speak of practices that are widely spread and accepted by all.

  • Yid´oni : reference is made to a medium. To the person who can come into contact with the spirits.
  • qosem q´samim : prediction of the future through the practice of throwing some sticks and analyzing the position in which they were left.
  • m´khaseph : they are evil spells. A kind of black magic that causes damage to other people.
  • sho´el´ov : it is another form of necromancy. It is another way to make contact with the dead to predict the future.
  • m´onen : predict the future by interpreting nature. A tree bark could determine the harshness of a winter according to the accumulated moss.
  • m´nachesh : that's what those who did magic using snakes were called.
  • chover chavar : that's how they said to those who made magic by knotting some ropes.
  • doresh´el hametim : back ways to make contact with the dead.

The existence of magical practices, witchcraft as a synthesis of a reality of widespread ignorance, is not an invention or a historical falsehood. It is a reality that attracts attention.

The priests of our day constantly cast anathema against magic and spells, but it is in their own holy book where all the examples are found.
