The Nature of Eckhart Tolle- January 2009, dc

We depend on nature not only for our physical survival.

You also need nature to show us the way home, the way out of the position of our minds.

We have lost ourselves in doing, in thinking, in remembering, in anticipating. We are lost in a world of problems the 21st century itself.

We have forgotten what rocks, plants and animals already know. We have forgotten to BE: to be ourselves, to be silent, to be where life is: HERE AND NOW

Bringing attention to a stone, the tree or an animal does not mean thinking in them, but simply perceiving them, realizing them, feeling that they are.

Then they transmit something of their essence. You feel how deeply unified with what IS and where you are realizing it, you also enter a place of deep rest within yourself.

When you walk or rest in nature, honor that kingdom, remaining there fully. It will be. Look. Listens. Enjoy

Notice how each plant and animal are completely themselves. Authentic Without artifice or falsehood.

They do not live through mental images of themselves and that is why they do not have to protect and enhance those images.

All natural things, in addition to being unified with themselves, are unified with the whole.

They have not departed from the framework of totality claiming a separate existence: yo, the great creator of conflicts.

You did not create your body and you are not able to control bodily functions either.

In your body operates an intelligence greater than the human mind. It is the same intelligence that sustains everything in nature. To get closer to that intelligence, be aware of your own internal energy field, feel life, the presence that animates the organism.

When you perceive nature, only through the mind, through thought, you cannot feel its fullness of life, of being. You only see the form and you are not aware of the life that animates it, of the sacred mystery.

Thought reduces nature to a consumer good, to a means of obtaining benefits, knowledge or some other practical purpose.

Observe, feel an animal, a flower, a tree, and watch how the being rests. Each of them is the same. They have an enormous dignity, innocence, holiness.

The moment you look beyond mental labels, you feel the ineffable dimension of nature that cannot be understood by thought.

It is a harmony, a sacredness that in addition to understanding the totality, is also within you.

The air you breathe is natural, like the breathing process itself. Direct the attention when breathing and realize that it is not you who breathes. The breath is natural.

Connect with nature in the most intimate and internal way, perceiving your own breath and remaining in it. It is a very pure and energizing practice. It produces a change of consciousness that allows you to move from the conceptual world of thought to the branch of unconditioned consciousness.

You need consciousness to teach you and help reconnect with your being. You are not separated from nature. We are all part of the Unique Life that manifests itself in countless forms in the universe, forms that are all interconnected.

When you recognize the holiness, beauty, incredible stillness and dignity with which a flower or a tree exists, you add something to that tree or that flower.

Thinking is a stage in the evolution of life. Nature exists in an innocent stillness that precedes the appearance of thought. When human beings calm down, they go beyond thinking. The stillness that is beyond thought contains an added dimension of knowledge, of consciousness.

Nature can take you to peace. That is his present for you. When you perceive nature and join it in the field of stillness, it is filled with your consciousness. That is your gift to nature. Through you, nature becomes aware of itself. It is as if nature had waited for millions of years to do so.
