LETTER XI

THE RESULTING LIFE SERVICE

1. Mobile for service.

2. Methods of service.

3. Attitudes that follow the service.

September 16, 1920.

By closing this series of letters, I want to convey something of general application, because I want to tell you about the service and its perfect performance. What I am going to say in this regard will be of vital application. Always keep in mind that the material acquisition of knowledge for your own benefit produces stagnation, obstruction, indigestion and pain, if it is not transmitted to others with intelligent discrimination. The food absorbed by the human body if not assimilated and distributed by the system, causes the same conditions mentioned. The analogy is exact. Many people today receive education for the benefit of the world in need and not exclusively for their own benefit.

Three things are important in providing the service:

1. The mobile.

2. The method.

3. The attitude that follows the action.

I will not try here the mobiles and wrong methods. They already know them. I will only indicate the correct ones, and by adapting the service life to the indications I give, they will arrive at the correction and inspiration. At this time a life of much service opens up for some of you; Try to start it properly. An adequate beginning can result in a continuous correction and help greatly in the effort. When a failure occurs, all that is needed is a readjustment. When the failure is due to an incorrect start (inevitable failure), it is necessary to renew the internal spring that drives the action.

1. Mobile for service.

There are three, according to the order of importance:

to. The understanding of God's plan for evolution, the appreciation of the tremendous need of the world; the perception of the immediate point of realization that the world must achieve, and the consequent concentration of all our resources to realize it.

b. A certain personal goal; some great ideal - like holiness - that demands the best efforts of the soul, or the conviction that there are the Masters of Wisdom; the firm internal determination to love them, serve them and reach them at any cost. When there is an intellectual understanding of God's plan, coupled with a strong desire to serve the Great Beings, it will develop in the activities of the physical plane.

C. The understanding of our innate or acquired abilities, and their adaptation to perceived needs. The service is of many kinds, and the one who lends it intelligently and tries to find its particular sphere and, finding it, joyfully dedicates all its efforts for the benefit of the whole, is the man whose development continues constantly; nevertheless, his personal progress remains as a secondary objective.

2. Methods of service.

They are many and diverse. I can only indicate those of primary importance.

The first and most important, as I have often repeated, is the power of discrimination. Whoever thinks he can try everything, that does not stop at anything, that rushes blindly where the smartest refrain from doing so, that he has aptitudes for everything that is offered, that puts zeal but not brains to solve this service problem, it does not do more than dissipate force; often their action is destructive; He wastes the time of the most advanced and intelligent in correcting his well-intentioned mistakes and serves no other purpose than to satisfy his own desires. He may receive the reward of his good intentions, but this is frequently nullified by the consequences of his reckless actions. It serves with discrimination who discovers their own niche, large or small, in the general scheme; who soberly calculates his mental and intellectual capacity, his emotional condition and his physical abilities and then with all his qualities he dedicates himself to occupy his niche.

It serves with discrimination who judges with the help of his higher Self and the Master, of what nature is the problem to be solved and its magnitude, and is not guided by the indications, requirements and requirements, well intentioned, but often thoughtless, of his fellow servants.

It serves with discrimination who knows how to put the time factor into activity and, understanding that the day has no more than twenty-four hours and that its capacity does not allow more than just using the amount just of strength, intelligently allocates to each his capacity and the available time.

This is followed by intelligent control of the physical vehicle . A good servant is not a source of anxiety for the Master for physical reasons, and he can be confident that he will take care of and distribute his physical strength in such a way that he will always be in a position to meet the requirements of the teacher. It never fails due to physical disability. Try to get your lower vehicle to get enough rest and adequate sleep. He gets up early and leaves at a convenient time. Rest when possible; take adequate and healthy food and avoid overeating. Some food well chosen and well chewed, is much better than an abundant meal. Today the human race usually eats four times more than necessary. He stops working when (due to an accident or inherited physical disability) his body resists the action and demands care. Then he looks for rest, sleep, takes precautions regarding the diet, submits himself to the doctor's attention and obeys his instructions, using the time necessary for restoration.

The next step is constant care and control of the emotional body . As is well known, this is the most difficult vehicle to drive. Emotional excesses should not be allowed, but the emotional body must be traversed by strong currents of love directed towards everything it encourages. Because love is the law of the system, it is constructive and stabilizing and makes everything progress according to the law. No fear, anxiety or worry should agitate the emotional body of the aspiring servant. He has to cultivate serenity, stability and the feeling that he can trust and depend on the Law of God. Your usual attitude should have the characteristic joyful confidence. He does not feel envious or gloomy depression, greed or self-pity, but, convinced that all men are brothers and that everything that exists is for everyone, continues its unperturbed path.

Then comes the development of the mental vehicle . By controlling the emotional body, the server assumes the attitude of elimination. Its objective is to train the emotional body so that it becomes colorless; establish a stable vibration that is clear, white and clear as a lake on a peaceful summer day. When preparing the mental horn for service, the efforts of the aspirant go in the opposite direction to the elimination. Try to accumulate information, provide knowledge and facts, train it intellectually and scientifically, so that you can prove over time that you have a solid foundation for divine wisdom. Wisdom must replace knowledge. However, knowledge is required, as a preliminary step. They must remember that the server goes through the Learning Classroom before entering the Wisdom Classroom. When training the mental body, the aspirant tries, therefore, to acquire knowledge in an orderly manner, accumulate what is needed, progressively capture the innate mental faculties accumulated in previous lives and, finally, stabilize the lower mind, thus the superior He will be able to control and the creative faculty of thought project itself through stillness. The Universe was projected from the Silence of the Absolute. From the darkness came the light. From the subjective I emanated the objective. The negative stillness of the emotional body makes it receptive to higher impressions. The positive stillness of the mental body leads to higher inspiration.

Having tried to intelligently control and use personality, in its three aspects, who loves humanity seeks perfection in action. His magnificent dreams of martyrdom and glory and the ephemeral spectacular chimeras of service do not get his attention, but he worries about instantly applying all his powers to immediate duty, the objective of his efforts. He knows that the perfection of the immediate plane of his life and the details of environmental work will provide precision to the mediated plane, resulting in a picture of rare beauty. Life progresses in short steps, each given in a timely manner, and each intelligently used moment leads to a life well spent. Those who guide the human family test, in the small details of everyday life, those who ask to serve, and who demonstrates faithful activity to perform seemingly non-essential things, will be transferred to a more important sphere. How can they, in case of emergency or crisis, trust who performs a careless and carefree job, in matters of daily life.

Another service method is adaptability. This implies the willingness to retire when someone more capable is sent to fill the place he occupies or (conversely) the ability to move from an unimportant job to another of greater importance, when another less competent can do with equal ease and good criterion the work he was doing. Servants who are valued neither too high nor too low demonstrate wisdom. Work is poor when an incapable person occupies a position; but it also constitutes a waste of time and power when skilled workers occupy positions where their capacity cannot be fully employed and the less gifted could perform well. Therefore, those who serve must be willing to remain a lifetime performing a position, not spectacular or seemingly important, because perhaps it is their destiny, and where they can serve better; but they must also be willing to move on to seemingly more valuable work when requested by the Master and the circumstances - and not the server projects - indicate that this time has come. Meditate on this last sentence.

3. Attitude after the action.

What should this attitude be? Total dispassion, complete forgetting of himself and absolute dedication to the next step. Perfect servant is the one who does everything he can to fulfill what he believes is the will of the Master and the work he must do in collaboration with God's plan. Then, having done his part, he continues his work without worrying about the outcome of his action. He knows that wiser eyes than his see the end from the beginning; that a deeper and more loving internal perception than his, values the fruits of his service and that a deeper judgment than his proves the strength and magnitude of the established vibration, adjusting the force according to the motive. He does not take pride in what he has done, nor does he feel unduly depressed about what he has not done. It does at all times the best that it can and does not waste time in retrospective contemplation, but goes on persistently, towards the performance of the next duty. To think about past actions and think retrospectively about the old achievements is contrary to evolution, since the server tries to work with the law of evolution. This is something important that must be taken into account. The intelligent servant, after the action, does not worry about what his fellow servants say, as long as his superiors (whether incarnate individuals, or the Great Beings themselves) are satisfied or remain silent; not worrying about the unexpected result if he loyally did the best he knew; he is not interested in reproach or disapproval while his inner self remains serene and his conscience does not accuse him; He does not worry if he loses friends, relatives, children, the popularity he used to enjoy or the approval of the collaborators that surround him, so as not to lose the internal sense of contact with those who guide and direct; He does not complain if he apparently works in darkness and if he is aware of the little result of his work, provided that the internal light intensifies and his conscience has nothing to reproach him for.

Summarizing:

The mobile can be condensed in a few words: The sacrifice of the personal self for the good of the One Self.

The method can also be specified: Intelligent personality control and discrimination regarding work and time.

The resulting attitude will be: Total dispassion and a growing love for the invisible and the real. Everything will be achieved by persistently practicing occult meditation.
