Spain prepares for the start of the World March for Peace


Because hunger in the world can be resolved with 10% of what is spent on armament. Because a “world without wars” is a proposal that opens the future and aspires to materialize in every corner of the planet where dialogue replaces violence. The time has come to make the voice of the voiceless heard. Millions of human beings are calling for the need to end wars and violence. We can achieve this by uniting all the forces of pacifism and active nonviolence in the world. ”

These are some of the reasons why the “World without Wars” initiative, an international organization promoted by the Humanist Movement, has created the World March for Peace and Nonviolence. The tour will begin on Friday, October 2 in Wellington, New Zealand, commemorating the birth of Mahatma Gandhi and will end at the foot of Mount Aconcagua, in the Andes mountain range, in Argentina, on January 2, 2010.

“The urgent thing is to create awareness for peace and disarmament. But it is also necessary to raise awareness of nonviolence that allows us to reject not only physical violence but also all forms of economic, racial, psychological, religious or sexual violence. This new sensibility can be installed and move the social structures, opening the way for the future Universal Human Nation, expresses the organization of the event.

For 90 days, the caravan will pass through more than 90 countries and 300 cities, on five continents. It will cover a distance of 160, 000 kilometers by land. Some sections will be crossed by sea and by air. It will pass through all climates and seasons, from summer in tropical areas and desert, to Siberian winter.

A permanent team of one hundred people of different nationalities will make the complete tour although the crossing is open to the participation of anyone who shares the sensitivity of the project.

When passing through the cities, all kinds of forums, conferences and sporting, cultural and social events will be held with the purpose of creating a global awareness of the need for true peace and total rejection. towards all kinds of violence .

Travelers will travel through Spain from November 13 to 15 and will visit Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Toledo Park, Malaga, Algeciras, Valladolid, A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela.
