Before starting one of the most motivating and light-filled interviews I've had, I had several difficulties finding Luis and hearing him say how Buddhism changed in my life.

We met one morning near the Casa Zen in Santo Domingo de Heredia, as we are in the rainy season it was better to talk in the morning and enjoy the first hours of the day.

Luis starts his work from 4 am, so we meet at 7am a little early for my time to start interviews, but without a doubt it was worth having the opportunity to speak with Luis a person who found the way of love, happiness and fulfillment through the words and teachings of the Buddha.

We are close to the Zen house, since that is the place where all those people who seek to know about Buddhism meet and also heal internally.

Then it was there in the middle of a sunny morning, Luis was sitting on a bench feeding the pigeons in the park.

How do I change Buddhism in my life: questions

I recognized him by his bald head and smile that enchants or brightens anyone's day and that was when we started the interview.

Question # 1 How many years have you been a Buddhist?

I can tell you that about 10 years I took the teachings of Buddha in my life, learn to love what we have, be generous souls and respect the living beings that surround us, it is a task that all The days I try to carry.

I brought Buddhism to living beings with my actions and examples, if I do not get to feed these pigeons, probably nobody will, however, change and good deeds begin in our own decisions.

As I change Buddhism in my life because I am a happy man that you see here.

Question # 2 What led you to become a Buddhist?

Well ... ( see the sky for a few seconds) I can tell you that it was not a whim and if it has been for 10 years pleasing hahahaha but I can tell you to take the teachings Buddha taught me to appreciate life and know what I can do to improve the world.

Carrying a message of peace, love, liberation and purity to others is the mission that all people must have in this earthly world.

We are incredible beings that have in our hands the best tools to achieve the human revolution.

Buddhism is not a religion and without a doubt that is one of the mistakes many people make when starting on this path. This is a lifestyle that we lead 24 hours.

Although "life is full of pain and suffering" (one of the 4 truths of Buddhism), we can make our world and actions improve others.

Question # 3 Why did you choose Buddhism?

It is an interesting question and I will tell you sincerely, many years ago I was looking for the love or acceptance of a God in various religions.

Without lying to you I spent much of my life looking for that peace and enlightenment that my soul needed, I met about 5 religions where I managed to feel that connection as I knew it since the first time I knew the truths of Buddhism.

I wanted to give the world the best version of my person and with Buddhism I have succeeded and I continue working on it.

We all want to reach the Nirvana state, in one way or another, but do we really commit to our truth? That is a question that only each individual can answer.

Question # 4 Do you think that with your actions you will change the world?

Siddharta Gautama, spent much of his life discovering the truth, until he brought his consciousness, body and soul to feel the Nirvana state, I am sure that Buddha managed to change the world and left a legacy for us to choose to follow.

I am not the one to say that religion is good or bad, but what I can assure is that we must connect, meditate and know what our true mission in this life is.

Today I fed these pigeons, maybe I didn't change everyone, but without any doubt theirs did, today they found food from my hand and the effort or "sacrifice" I made was minimal.

This reminds me of a famous Tibetan proverb that says:

“Give people more than they expect from you and do it with pleasure”

So it is a pleasure for me to serve others and bring love and happiness to this world.

Question # 5 What do people think of you when you say you are a Buddhist?

Well, the first mistake people make is to judge without knowing, they tell me that it is a somewhat naive religion, first mistake and as I told you before.

Being a Buddhist is a philosophy, a lifestyle that you always lead not only once a week or on Sundays, every day I get up and look for that nirvana.

Many have gone to the Zen house out of curiosity and discovered the true love of Buddha.

Others simply believe it is a waste of time, but I can tell you that:

“Great loves and great achievements always require great risks”

Another one of my favorite Tibetan phrases, every day I decide that I want to take the world and without any doubt Buddhism showed me a life full of light, love and meditation.

Question # 6 Is Buddhism better than the other philosophies?

Excellent question and I can answer that no religion, belief or philosophy is wrong or not correct.

Buddhism respects every region and thought of life, as long as it brings respect and love for living beings.

We are not who to judge that it is more important or who has more value, we are beings who came to this world to create and do good deeds .

Well, as I change Buddhism in my life, I can say that it gave me a new opportunity.

Question # 7 Do you believe in death?

I tell you and I can tell others, death is a phase of our lives, we can say that before you start your next existence, you must have a rest to return to this world

There is no end, only life cycles where we are always renewing ourselves, let's learn from this moment and give our soul and spirit what is necessary to feed it.

Question # 8 What are the things that a Buddhist should not do?

That question is simple and I can answer it easily, we should not:

  • Steal
  • Lie
  • Kill
  • Drink alcohol
  • Be adulterers
  • Having sex with people other than your partner

Basically those would be, if I jump any then, readers will tell in due course.

Question # 9 Does Buddha really change your life?

Absolutely and I appreciate having had the opportunity to know his philosophy, today I am a totally different person than I was 10 years ago.

Now I dedicate myself to painting and giving drawing workshops to children.

Question # 10 Do you miss the past life you had?

No, I am a person full of love, hope and life that seeks to change the world through every action it took.

Before I ran to get to work on time and fulfill the earthly responsibilities, today I am a free spirit that seeks to continue learning.

How I change Buddhism in my life and way of thinking is something I enjoy every day.
