Eckhart Tolle: ASSUME YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, October 2009 AD

Interviewer: the word that is giving me the most difficulty is RESPONSIBILITY and I have a feeling that the majority of the thing that I consider a responsibility is simply my ego telling me the things I have to do. But also when I think about the future of the Earth, human evolution and things like that, sometimes, I have great feelings of responsibility, So I'm curious, and thanks about the relationship appropriate with the word responsibility .

Eckhart Tolle: thanks, it's a strange word. It has been pointed out that if you look at the word, it seems to be talking about the ability to respond. Therefore, take responsibility. What is it that you can take responsibility for? It is simply about taking responsibility for your state of consciousness, which you determine which world you create, because you are humanity. humanity is a concept; does not exist. It is the human being. You are humanity. For humanity to take responsibility, one must primarily begin to take responsibility for their state of consciousness because only a sick or dysfunctional state of consciousness creates a sick or dysfunctional world outside.

By world, I mean, the world created by man that has been imposed on what already exists, the planet, which is potentially, of course a paradise. The planet, a pristine and incredible jewel, a being of great intelligence, - we are not separated from it - but the being is going through a transition process and all transition process It is critical or it may work or not, in which case another direction will be taken - but, your state of consciousness determines what world you create, what actions you take, and what kind of consequences your actions have. -. Therefore, this is why my main task is to study the cause of dysfunction, which resides in the human mind or as it is sometimes known as Zen, the disease of human death. Therefore, as I see it, and no one who has read History can doubt it, there is a deeply rooted dysfunction in humans - it has been there for thousands of years - and if there is no change, then the dysfunction will destroy us. It probably won't destroy the planet, because it has enormous resources, but the planet will take some time to recover.

All you have to do, then, is basically take responsibility for your state of consciousness now. NOW. And this is what the whole teaching is about: what is my state of consciousness right now? Am I generating disturbances? Am I generating negativity? Am I generating conflict and suffering for myself and others? Am I generating internal pollution? Am I contaminating the beautiful being that I am with continuous and absurd movements of thought producing negative emotions, producing an entire entity that is illusory, which I call "I"? Therefore, to assume responsibilities there must of course be an awakening, with which you can say "in agreement, I will assume the responsibilities, now".

Some people do not even know that there is the possibility of taking responsibility. That is why you are so important. Anyone who becomes aware of it becomes the beginning of the transformed world. I DO NOT know whose famous phrase is heard quite often now: you must be the change; you must incorporate the change you want to see outside. And it's not so much about what you do. There is something more primary than what you do: who you are. You are your state of consciousness and everything you do flows from that. Therefore, the main thing about that, so that change is the state of transformed consciousness, now. That is your responsibility; Now you know. People who are not yet at that level don't realize it, and that's fine, you can't expect everyone to be in that phase.

It is enough for you to assume responsibilities, knowing that there are still some millions who do not know that they can assume responsibilities, because they live in such unconsciousness that they see all the evil in others and turn half of the world into their enemies. Everything is outside ... That's fine. Your responsibility ... Only those who live up to it are required to assume responsibilities. And to those who are still totally unconscious, on the one hand, they don't know what they are doing, obviously - as Jesus said on the cross: "They don't know what they are doing"; in other words, they are under the domain of unconscious forces, or flows of unconscious mental emotions. They do not know what they do. You CANNOT blame them. And people say, "Should they be held accountable!" No, you can't because they don't know what they do.

However, the fact that they are not responsible because they cannot be responsible does not mean that they do not suffer the consequences of their unconsciousness. Therefore, they generate suffering. And, over time, suffering is the fire in which the ego is consumed - the collective ego and the individual ego. That is the long road, the slow road, the painful road. And then there is a shortcut; any spiritual teaching makes its way to that; the painful and long path of awakening; More and more suffering.

The planet may not tolerate such a long learning process for humanity. Therefore, if the learning process of humanity is not shortened, it is doubtful that the planet allows humanity to learn, through more suffering for another 500 years or even 200 years, or 100 years.

Therefore, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING.
