Humanitarian Buddhism

Humanitarian Buddhism is not new. It is the teaching of Buddha. He affirms that the Buddha was born, cultivated, enlightened and taught human beings the way to experience Nirvana (liberation from suffering), in this human world, and not departing from it.

Buddha taught that we will attain Buddhahood (total enlightenment) through our humanity. As the Vimalak Sutra exposes

Venerable Tai Xu once said: “When you become fully human, you will become Buddhas (which we already are). That is the living meaning of the truth. ” Then, Humanitarian Buddhism encourages us to integrate into our lives the teachings of Buddha about tolerance, loving kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity, for our own benefit and for that of all beings.

Because sentient beings have different capacities and inclinations, Buddha taught on different levels, using numerous methods to help everyone understand the joy of Dharma liberation (his teachings anzas). The Sutras (the Buddhist scriptures) talk about eighty-four thousand different methods, or an infinite number that can be used to help listeners understand and integrate the teachings into their lives, for the mutual benefit of all sentient beings.

Classification of Buddhist Methods

Throughout history, Buddhist Masters have classified Buddhist methods into those based on self-effort (the power of oneself) and those that depend on the help of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas (the power of the others). However, when one looks more closely, one sees that the Truth is indivisible: one's power is the power of others and vice versa.

Venerable Master Hsing Yun says:

When Ch an and the Pure Land are practiced together they become something like a tiger with horns .

Practiced together, they allow the practitioner to understand more and more that our happiness is not detached from the happiness of the dem s, because our heart is nothing more and nothing less than the universe itself. So, to save all sentient beings from suffering is not to put our own happiness on the needs of others, but to create those conditions that give others confidence, hope, happiness and convenience. Acting in such a selfless way, the illusion of the limits between me and the others, which seems so real, will gradually dissolve within our mind and experience. The result is the gradual creation of the Pure Land, a state of mind and a tangible reality on earth, in which all sentient beings, human and others, can live in harmony, and relate to each other. with others with growing compassion, joy and wisdom as Buddhas to wake up that we all are.

In the Diamond Sutra Buddha says:

To all sentient beings, whether they are born from eggs, womb, moisture or transformation, whether they have a form or not, whether they have thoughts or not, I will take them to Nirvana. I will save them all and none will be left behind.
