Drawing therapy with children and adults

  • 2012

Drawing like a hobby, without haste, dedicating our free time not only unleashes our creativity, but also makes us feel free and, therefore, more children.

Drawing and painting is an excellent way to contact our inner child and give him wings to fly and express himself.

Interestingly, in our strokes, colors and way of drawing features of our personality are manifested. This can be seen, for example, in that the way children color the mandalas brings out aspects of their character, including defects, which allows them to be detected in time and corrected. Qualities also appear which, when identified, can be enhanced. What is clear is that drawing gives us a lot of information about the person who makes and paints the drawing. For example, a stubborn and closed-minded person may reflect perspective problems in his drawing, an insecure person will draw shaky strokes, or a person with attention or unrealistic problems may not adequately reflect the play of shadows and highlights in his illustration. Even a person too fanciful may not be able to seat their characters, seeming to float.

In any case, all of this can be rectified and, without realizing it, I am sure that these changes on paper will transform the personality of the artist and this will be how his passion for drawings will teach or encourage him to be a better person, to become aware of himself. Already take into account the details.

All children love to draw and bring this pleasant activity to adulthood is a way of feeling younger, alive and engaging. dialogue with the child that we all carry inside.

Every form of creativity that we can develop will benefit our mental state and will contribute significantly to our feeling better and more comfortable with ourselves.

When a child shows us his drawings, we should not laugh at him as if we mock the absurd or what we do not understand from his drawings. On the contrary, we must support and encourage the child in his creative work and ask him what it means for him that we do not decipher or understand from his drawing and exchange and share points of view. This will make the child feel heard and that he puts interest in his innocent creations.

When it comes to drawing or coloring a child should never feel discouraged by an adult, on the contrary, boosting the child's creativity will make him connect naturally with his creative source which implies that the child or adopts its creative role, listens and pays attention to its needs and, therefore, will be more able to meet them. In addition, creativity raises the mood, teaches us to believe in ourselves and motivates and encourages us to face the possible eventualities or obstacles that could lead to the development of our creative potential .

Adults usually think that it is we who teach children, but in reality children are a great teacher and some of them usually show it to us from their drawings.
