In full turmoil of financial markets, Triodos Bank has published in the United Kingdom the results of a survey on consumer attitudes towards savings and the banking sector in general.
After the fall of the Northern Rock Bank - the first British entity victim of the liquidity crisis -, 61% of respondents said they would now want to know more about how the bank invests their money, and only 21% do not They were interested.
38% agreed that they would consider accepting a lower interest rate in a savings account if they knew their money was going to be used responsibly, and only 39% were against it.
More than half of the people interviewed indicated that they were more aware than five years ago of the environmental impact of their bank and the businesses it finances. On the other hand, 53% of the holders of banking products stated that their greatest concern in the past was interest rates, and that they were now interested in other aspects, such as the credit policy of their bank.
According to the results of the survey, young people between 16 and 24 are the most willing to consider social and environmental factors when opening a bank account, unlike those over 65.
In the United Kingdom, Triodos Bank has launched the Online Saver account, which guarantees that savings will only finance businesses and charities whose work benefits people and the environment. Clients will know exactly which organizations borrow their money.
