Madrid has a new Time Bank

With the objective of exchanging time, offering or demanding services, the Round Trip Bank (BiV) has been formally opened in Madrid. English or reflexology classes, boat trips, animal caretakers or how to set up an aquarium are some of the proposals that have been registered as soon as the initiative begins.

Even, the BiV goes beyond the physical limits of Madrid, as is the case of Beatriz, who lives in Barcelona and teaches English through the Skype free telephony application. And to publicize the project, the bank gives away the first hour that the interested person demands.

Like all time banks, the idea is that the only currency of exchange is a period: one hour is spent offering a service and, in return, another hour of an activity is needed.

The unit of exchange and value is the time, regardless of the work offered or received. In this way, cooperation and solidarity are encouraged, performance of any type of work is revalued, without discriminating sex, race, health condition or economic class.

The BiV is promoted by the national music association Ida y Vuelta, an entity that promotes the creation of exchange spaces between the cultures of the migrant communities and that of the neighbors themselves, through music.
