The mayor has advised that each family prepare a backpack or emergency plan in case of a natural disaster.
In other cities, such as New York, Tokyo or London, this is already done.

In the event of a natural disaster, a fire or a landslide, each Madrid family should have an emergency plan prepared, a backpack for each of their members in case they have to evacuate and a “module” with the most necessary in case there is to Stay at home for several days.
It is something that big cities like London, New York, San Francisco, Sydney and Tokyo already advise their inhabitants and that from today Madrid also does, which has launched a website, preparatemadrid.es, with all kinds of advice in case of emergency.
The website, presented by the mayor, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, and the security delegate, Pedro Calvo, explains that "being prepared for an emergency is very easy, it is fun and has little cost."
"His life and that of his family, " he adds, "may depend on simple measures taken prior to the emergence of an emergency."
According to the advice that can be read on this website, the emergency plan could establish two meeting places for the family, one next to the house and another outside the neighborhood; identify the access and exit routes of the house and the neighborhood; and choose someone who lives outside the city to use as a contact if the local telephone network does not work, among other things.
The emergency backpack, one per person, should have photocopies of the documentation, a list of phones, toilets, a set of floor keys, a credit card Credit, a water bottle, a flashlight and a battery-powered radio, a mobile phone, a small medicine cabinet or a mute.
As for the emergency “module”, it would be composed of the same as the backpack but in greater quantity - for example, five liters of water are proposed per person and a bottle of bleach and a dropper per if it is necessary to purify it-, canned food, a larger medicine cabinet, with medicines for chronic diseases, or a whistle to ask for help.
