Of course, in this world today, daring to say rest without an agenda is something like saying that our life will be out of control, we will not see our commitments and we can possibly omit some very important ones.

However, in the field of meditation if we can do it, regardless of the time it takes us, such as what is a twenty-five minute cat (session), which is the recommended minimum ideal or up to four hours for very advanced practitioners.

What is resting in the present moment?

What do we mean by resting in the present moment? It is basically attending to our body, speech and mind at the same moment, when we are meditating we have to be in the now, normally we experience mental agitation that is a huge amount of thoughts one after another without control or the opposite extreme that is drowsiness and I dream that clouds our attention.

Rest in the present moment requires feeling our body and mind at the same moment, we can feel our muscles, our sight, our ears just in the moment we are in and the big key is breathing, if we analyze breathing a little It is always in the present, so it is a very useful anchor to avoid sleep and mental agitation when meditating.

Breathing is the basis of great meditation methodologies in the East such as the Shamata.

What does it mean to rest without an agenda?

What does it mean to rest without an agenda? At least when we are meditating we must give our mind space to momentarily release the earrings, if we observe the check all the time our agenda does not place us in the present, in fact it shoots us moment by moment into the future to everything we have to do Tomorrow, in a week or a month.

Meditating with the agenda in mind is an obstacle in meditation, simply because the mind does not rest in its calm and spacious nature .

There are several antidotes so to speak to anchor the attention in the present moment, breathing is one, also when we have many thoughts we can exhale several times and observe how little by little the mind calms down and in the case of sleepiness or sleep we can inhale a few times and observe how the mind cools and cares.

it is not convenient to be excessively tired

Of course, if we do not sleep well or reveal any antidote it is useful to avoid sleepiness when meditating, it is not optimal to be excessively tired because it will surely become an experience of struggle with our mind when what it requires is to rest.

It is also advisable to eat light foods before meditating, because if we eat a lot, the attention of our mind is concentrated in the process of digestion and reduces energy to the effort we must make to reach a good concentration and meditation.

Like everything else, the mind ends up giving in when we take it again and again to the point we want, in this case to attend to the present.

We should not be discouraged if the effort takes us longer than we expect, the important thing is to understand that we are in a process and we will achieve it to our very particular state of mind and time.

The recommendation as always is not to meditate without proper personal guidance, at least in the first months of learning, because we can reinforce rather than eliminate habits and trends that do not help and if they strengthen the imbalances in meditation.

enjoy a calm and healthy mind

Finally, it is increasingly validated that, meditation in its simplest stages, so to speak, is very useful for physical and mental well-being, especially nowadays in which it is ensured that many of the diseases come from emotional imbalances. Meditation in an excellent tool to keep our mind at peace, and who can deny the enormous benefits of a calm and healthy mind is certainly something we can do for a few minutes, at home, with our mind and body, it has no cost and if many benefits, as it is always never too late to start.
