Living to die has great charm. Living thinking about eternal goods and belittling passenger goods is advantageous. Physical death is the basic certainty in this earthly reality and to accept this truth cheerfully is to accept the will of God. Eternal Life, Life in Heaven, is so beautiful, that if one manages to imagine or savor a little of this fullness, little will matter to change the transitory life in this valley of tears, for the joy of Life contemplating the face of God.

Passing world

In this world many people are seen striving to achieve wealth, fame, professional or political success ... "The world is all these things and the" world loves its own " (John 15, 19), and yet all these things do not last long time with the world, "because the world will pass and also its lusts" (I John 2, 17). You, therefore, if you judge wisely, if there is light in your eyes, let things happen that are misery to get them, that possessed weigh, that beloved stains, that losses torment. Leave, then, all these things for Him who is above all things ”( St. Bonaventure : 1947: p.83).

"Saint Augustine says:" Those who flourish in the happiness of the century die for God: they temporarily bloom, they perish eternally: they flourish in false goods, they perish in true torments. " And he says in another place: "If we like to possess something of this world, with the free soul we possess God, who possesses all things, and in Him we will happily and holyly all that we desire " (In: St. Bonaventure: 1947 : p.85).

San Bernardo says: “Look how the lovers of this world go through the fairs of this century looking for riches, other honors and other glory . And what will I say about the riches? They are acquired with work, are possessed with fear and are lost with pain. What of the honors? You climbed into a sublime position; Do you not have to be judged by all, shattered by all? Is there honor without pain, prelacy without tribulation, sublimity without vanity? And what will I say about the glory? It is nothing but a vain flattering of the ears. Will it be exempt from being judged? Look at all you preach and think that in all you have sown seeds of envy ”(In: San Buenaventura: 1947: p.82).

The real treasure

Jesus says: “And why are you worried about the dress? Look at the lilies of the field, as they grow without fatigue or knitting. I assure you that not even Solomon, in the splendor of his glory, dressed as one of them. If God so saw the grass of the fields, which today exists and tomorrow will be thrown into the fire, how much more will he do for you, men of little faith! Do not worry then by saying, "What will we eat, what will we drink, or what will we wear?" It is the pagans who go after these things. The Father in Heaven knows well that you need them. Seek first the Kingdom and its justice, and everything else will be given to you in addition ”(Matthew 6, 28-34).

The key is in the words of Christ. We may never lack food and housing, we may even be famous, as happens to those who become Pontiffs, or as it happened to Mother Teresa of Calcutta, we may even be responsible for occupying a position in power, with the intention to serve ...

But the important thing is to know how to distinguish the true treasure, which is the Kingdom of God, from the passing goods, which in the hands of certain people can be harmful rather than beneficial. And trust in God, who knows perfectly well that we need to eat and sleep indoors to live with dignity, and that he will give us all that in addition to seeing that our heart is centered on his Love, his Will and his Word.

Remember that only the treasure chest is the one that contains Peace, Wisdom, Love, Joy and Eternal Life.

The Kingdom of Heaven

If we tasted eternal life! If we contemplate Jesus transfigured! If we felt the wonder of being united to God, in God! We would have no doubt when choosing! We would bet all our chips on the Kingdom of God, on Paradise, on Heavenly Jerusalem, in favor of eternal Life!

“The kingdom of heaven is similar to a hidden treasure in the countryside, which when a man finds it, hides it again, and with joy for it, goes, sells everything it has and buys that field. The kingdom of heaven is also similar to a merchant looking for fine pearls, and when he found a pearl of great value, he went and sold everything he had and bought it ”(Matthew 13, 44-46).

In the kingdom of the heavens "the soul becomes drunk with sweetness, it is the elevation of the mind, when happily the spirit abstracted from the earthly, rises in a wonderful way over itself, over the world, and even over every creature, so that the soul can say: "The King introduced me into the feast room" (Cant. 2, 4). This is that chamber of wine, in which the soul is introduced, in which the soul drinks the seasoned wine with the sweetness of the priceless Divinity, and drinks the very white milk of the uncontaminable Humanity. Oh soul, here the friends drink, but the very friends get drunk. Oh happy drunkenness, which is still so chaste and so holy sobriety of the soul and body! Here the soul, like the drunk, becomes joyful and cheerful in the adverse, strong and safe in danger, prudent and discreet in the prosperous, generous and pious in forgiving insults, and, finally, still and sleepy resting in the divine arms, because the left hand of the Husband rests lovingly under the head of the wife, and the "right hand of the Beloved embraces her" (II Cor. 1, 7) loving "(St. Bonaventure: 1947: p.91).

Certain death

Let us keep in mind t that death cannot be avoided, that the hour of death cannot be known, that the moment preordered by God cannot be changed (Psalm 83, 2). God decides what time we should leave, not us. Earthly anguish cannot lead us to shorten our days in this valley of tears. The seduction, success and satisfaction that earthly goods give cannot lead us to lengthen our bodily state.

Saint Bernard says Oh sure life, when conscience is pure; when death is expected without fear, when it is sweetly desired, and accepted with devotion (In: St. Bonaventure: 1947: p.97).

While this life lasts, earn that life that lasts forever . While you live in the flesh, die to the world, so that after the death of the flesh, you begin to live for God (San Bernardo -En: San Buenaventura: 1947: p. 97).

The hell is terrible, but the angry face of the Judge is more terrible; and what surpasses all terror is the eternal separation of the contemplation of the beatimous and happy Trinity . Says Saint Chrysostom. Being excluded from eternal goods, and becoming oblivious to what the Lord prepared for those who love him, produces such great torment, that if outwardly no penalty torments, this alone will suffice, and better it would be to suffer a thousand thousands of flames, to be angry at the meek face of Christ and be separated from him forever (St. Bonaventure: 1947: p.100).

What a horror to lose the hug of God! How sad to be removed from his companion and to lack his friendship!

Knowing

Knowing that the eternal is more extensive than the finite. That no earthly good can be compared to the wonders of the Kingdom of God. That death is true and that temporary goods perish with it. Let us put our hope and our yearning in God, who is the only one capable of filling our hearts . And let us live every day that we are given on earth in the best way, serving, loving, and why not, also enjoying as much as possible, but above all, always remembering where you are. hidden the real treasure .
