The title of this article is truly tempting. Do you not believe it? Just ask us what does the Jewel mean that satisfies all desires? It is actually a way to visualize something very valuable, and that it can be an expensive, precious jewel, which if that were not enough satisfies all desires.

the compassion personified in the Dalai Lama

Initially they mention it when they describe the practice of Chenrezi or Avalokiteshvara, which is the Budha of Compassion, it is stated in Tibetan Buddhism that the reincarnation of this Budha is manifested in the Dalai Lama, and it really makes sense, if you have had the opportunity to meet him, on the occasions he has visited his countries he is the clear and warm representation of compassion, non-duality, the transcendence of the concepts and love to all beings wishing that they be free from all their sufferings, yes, that is the Dalai Lama.

But what does it have to do with the jewel that satisfies all desires? Well, it is that in its iconographic representation, the Budha of compassion has its hands in the form of prayer and within them it protects or holds the jewel that satisfies all the wishes.

How is this jewel?

How is this jewel? We do not know it really depends on how each person visualizes it, which is what everyone considers to be what satisfies all their desires.

Now it is important to emphasize that desire for itself is not something very healthy, especially if it leads to attachment, greed, envy or ambition, in fact it refers to the highest spiritual achievements, peace, equanimity, patience, joyful effort and the ultimate liberation of our suffering.

There is a verse that says: "With the determination to achieve the supreme objective of benefit of all beings which exceeds the jewel that grants desires, I will learn to love them on all occasions "

The verse is pretty and clear, it tells us that taking care of near, distant, known and neutral beings is as or more valuable than having the jewel that satisfies all desires, that is true, if we take into account that generosity and Being of help to others leads us to peace and liberation from our mental afflictions, it is more valuable than having a lot of wealth and living tormented by what it derives if we link in the wrong way, such as losing our wealth and not being able to sleep for that concern.

positive retribution of our shares

Caring for all beings gives us much more satisfaction than material things and according to the law of cause and effect their future retribution is economic, physical and spiritual prosperity ... not something simply material.

When it is affirmed that we will appreciate all beings on all occasions, we mean that people do not have intrinsic identity, neither is it so that part of a good spiritual and emotional practice is to understand that as we other people transit through a large number of problems and moods and we must understand and love them as is, in fact it happens to us the same, we are not always happy, sad and angry and if our surroundings will appreciate us only when we are happy it would be a rather painful, incomplete and partial.

This is how wanting, respecting, understanding and being compassionate with the beings around us is more valuable than having the jewel that satisfies all desires.

wrong pursuit of happiness

It is true that it is a difficult practice if our challenge is to love someone who hurts us badly, but we can start by visualizing it and understanding that he or she goes through difficult situations like everyone else and that it is this impulse that leads him to harm, sometimes in a wrong search for happiness, so let's be understanding and hope that this person is free from what causes him suffering and drives him to harm someone else.

At first the intention will seem false and even hypocritical, but reflecting and meditating again and again we end up understanding that it is not the nature of that person that drives it but it is its afflictions and concerns that lead it to act in a non-constructive way

A famous analogy in Tibetan texts invites us to imagine a very angry person with a stick to hit someone, in this case the stick is conceived as affliction, for example anger, it is not the nature of the person that Acting is the affliction that you consider as effective in resolving a situation, but ultimately generates more problems.

physical and emotional discomforts

For example, resulting in remorse, fear, regret, sadness or more anger, is not a pleasant situation, so why do we get angry at someone who hurts us if deep down And going through physical and emotional discomforts, a deep sense of understanding, understanding and compassion must grow in us, and the aspiration that he will soon be released from that afflicting state that generates much suffering.

This is how in broad strokes, helping and appreciating all beings will always be more valuable and profitable than having the jewel that satisfies all desires, in fact the result of caring for others is superior to all the material wealth that we accumulate. Let us not forget the others since the karmic retribution is positive and generating great merit, remember that nothing is different from its nature, so if we do good it cannot reach We other than good. It is undoubtedly a good investment of our energy to reap genuine well-being, peace and happiness.
