Reflections: Walks in the park

  • 2019

When I went to the park for a walk, unfortunately I don't do it anymore, it made me observe other people who did it too, and the great variety of behaviors I saw There was a temptation to compare the different ways in which people make their walks with the different ways in which we face our lives.

Most of the people were on the roads in the same direction in which distance markers were placed that helped walkers to know how much they had traveled . In my comparison exercise, it seemed to me that these people represented those who go through life respecting what is established, complying with the rules and following the majorities. There were other people who were traveling through the same comineries but in the opposite direction, they were less than the previous ones and included them in the group of those who like to go against the tide, challenging what was established and what the Most people consider it the "right" thing.

To try to understand both preferences, sometimes I walked following most and sometimes in the opposite direction and really the feeling in each of those senses was very different. When I did it in the sense of distance markers I felt more comfortable, with less risk of interfering in the path of others, except when I got someone who came in the opposite direction, who really bothered him in his journey. When I did it in the other direction I felt more likely to get in the way of others and sometimes I did not feel sure which side of the road to take and I think that those who came in the opposite direction were the same.

There was another group that did not use the established roads, they traveled along paths parallel to these by which fewer people circulated. In that group, as in the previous one, some traveled in the direction of distance markers and others in the opposite direction. When walking along these paths, I noticed that the ground was softer than that of the main roads, where the greatest traffic had already exposed many stones and tree roots that sometimes made walking difficult. Because of that difficulty on the main road, I assume that those who preferred to go along the parallel paths represented those who go through life avoiding obstacles and difficulties, always looking for a path of least resistance. While those that remained in the existing roads belonged to those who prefer what was established even with the difficulties that this may represent.

There was a third group that seemed to me the most radical, who walked cross country without following the paths or the paths parallel to them. They were very few and I would say that they represented the rebels who do not accept norms or pre-established rules and who want to draw their own paths. When I walked that way, to try to understand why they did it, the feeling I had was greater freedom, but also at greater risk of suffering a mishap, because there were no roads or paths to open them when walking, which generated greater effort and greater difficulty and slowness to move forward.

There was another difference between the people who exercised that also seemed interesting to me and was their way of dressing. Some went with their best sets, which models of sportswear catalogs, not always, but generally, they were the least intense in the execution of their exercises. It seemed to me that the most important thing for them was the appearance and not the objective of exercising that took them there. While there were others who definitely looked careless in their dress, but it was common that they were the ones who exercised with greater intensity. It seemed unimportant to them what others thought or said, as long as they achieved the goal that had brought them there.

I do not know how successful my comparison exercise has been, but it is a fact that in our journey through life we will find people who go to our side and in the same direction, with whom we will identify and we will feel comfortable and with who will not have major setbacks. But we will also find some that will lead us the opposite and with whom conflicts will arise that we will have to resolve in order to continue advancing on our path and of course there will always be facilitators and rebels who will seek or open their own paths and in us will be the decision of which Those groups will join to make our tour.

We will also meet in life with people whose main interest is "what will they say?" Or "what will they think?" Others about them, so they dedicate a lot of effort to appear what they consider important to generate an answer Favorable to those questions. While we will find others who will put their greatest effort in achieving what they set out, without giving greater importance to what others think about them. In this case we must also make the decision of which of these two groups we will belong to.

If you usually take walks, I invite you to observe if the way you do it reflects in some way your way of facing your life and if so and you don't like it, try another way to do it and maybe you can change what you don't like. If you don't do them, I recommend you try it, because it is a good way to exercise physically, mentally and spiritually.
