What is the worst thing I could discover about my own nature? By Francisco De Sales

  • 2014

In my opinion, almost all of us suffer from a terrifying fear that prevents us from showing ourselves naturally and makes it difficult for us to reach the last corners of the most unknown of us.

It is a pessimistic self-concept that there are bad things in our nature - and it is not true, because nature is pure - that we prefer not to leave a more secret drawer that we keep locked in a safe that is inside another safe in a site unknown to the rest of humanity.

If one day we discover something that we did not like, we pessimistically suspect that this is the tip of the iceberg, that there has to be much more, and that removing the interior will only bring to light some demons that we keep hidden and semi-lethargic. Better not shake it.

The negligence in the approach is that we think that if it is hidden it does not affect, that not thinking about it disappears, or that denying it is better than solving it. At least it is more comfortable. But it is not effective. It is not decisive.

What is, is, and what is, is. And this is true.

And no matter how hidden or half forgotten what we don't want to recognize, it won't stop causing its influence or its havoc.

The effective, the brave, the fair, the necessary, is to bring it to light and air it - even if it is in the privacy of Self - and treat it from equanimity and not from fear of its influence. It is not the enemy: it is the unknown part that has not yet been resolved. It is what we call "the shadow."

And the shadow is not the enemy nor is it the indestructible: it is the unconscious aspect of the personality that the Conscious Self does not want to recognize as its own.

Recognizing them offers the opportunity to modify or undo them.

And that is undoubtedly the first step: get to where it is and remove it from its hiding place or our ignorance, observe it, find its origin if possible, recognize it, accept it from that moment since its existence is undeniable, and from there Do what is considered appropriate. But to do something, with the intensity and periodicity that one wants, or immediately, that may be the most appropriate, but not content to have recognized it and think that it is already a resolved issue.

That part that we all have that we don't like is as real as the one we do accept. And to repudiate it only speaks of a deep heartbreak towards ourselves, because the generous and noble act is to accept it as it is - because it is part of one although one does not like it -, with the promise of modifying it, dismantling it, stripping it of the Darkness that has been granted, understanding it as a part of humanity that we are, with its congenital imperfections - this life is a Way of Perfection, that is what life is about: to correct oneself to progress, to refine oneself in the improvement, to be getting closer to what we can be.

There is nothing "worse" that can be discovered in nature itself, because "worse" is only an adjective. What there is and what it is, is what there is and what it is. Nothing else.

Personal Development proposes to bring to light what exists, without fear and without shame, and remember that nothing is inevitable, that nothing is irrevocable, that life is not a condemnation that one has to fulfill, but that each one has to design his own philosophy of life and his own personality, and that implies having some values and discarding others, and giving prevalence to some things and diluting others. And that is the Way.

Having something you don't like is not diabolical: it is a reality.

The diabolical thing is knowing and doing nothing to correct it.

The suggestion is to enter without fear to discover what is there, like it or not, and without fear, because what is discovered will remain secret with oneself - that is why oneself will only come to find and not judge- . It is convenient to remember that one is not always to blame for the things he finds and it is possible that he is rather a victim. Bad education, circumstances, inexperience ... there are many reasons, outside and outside, that may be responsible for what we have done or not, how we are or not, and now what we intend to do is fix what can be done and Don't entertain yourself looking guilty. Cheer up. This may be the most important step of your life.

I leave you with your reflections ...
