First Toltec Agreement: 'Be impeccable with words'

  • 2018

Watch your words; may they not build a wall between you and those who live with you.

Thales of Miletus

At present, with the advance of telecommunications and technology, the way we interact is in crisis. Therefore, it is imperative that we worry about creating strong and true bonds in our lives.

That is why in this cycle, we will carry out an analysis of the different agreements that Miguel Ruiz proposes in his book The four agreements . On this occasion, the First Toltec agreement : S impeccable with the words .

Without further introduction, let's begin.

The words and the creation

The Bible says In principle there was the Word, the Word was next to God, also (or also) the Word was God .

For those who are familiar with the Law of Attraction or NLP, they know of the power that the words we use have over the creation of our reality. Language structures all our experiences and our life. They are not a simple tool to express ourselves, but we are born, live and die within language . That is what determines that we have to know what words we use to express ourselves, especially in our relationships.

The word creates . It causes emotions, situations, beliefs and thoughts. So what intention do we put in the words we enunciate?

The intention in the words

Miguel Ruiz says that our magic is found in words. And that the intention that we put in them is what will differentiate if the magic we use is white or black. What we provoke with them is absolutely our responsibility. And in the Four Toltec Agreements they leave us a practical guide on how to orient ourselves towards the good use of words.

This book uses the word ' impeccable '. He highlights the meaning of this word as ' free from sin ', and then explains that sin is every action we take against us . But if they are actions we take against us, where do relationships with other people come into this agreement?

Well, we all know that everything we do returns us . The words we use with others will cause a mirror reaction that will act directly on our reality. Those who are familiar with the term ' karma ' know what I am talking about.

So, the teaching is simple: Do not tell others what you would not say to yourself.

However, this also forces us to address an issue that is not minor, and is our relationship with ourselves.

The agreement and we

We all know that inner voice that uses words with us constantly. That is what determines how we relate to the person we are. The voice tells us how we are, it can insult us as we would never let another person do it, it can hit us, scare us, and criticize us so much because it has a privileged position: it comes from within, and we cannot silence it .

How do we act when that voice speaks to us? Do we listen to those words and lower our heads, or impose ourselves before it? If we would not let anyone talk to us that way, why do we allow ourselves to treat ourselves that way, that we are the ones who suffer directly from its consequences?

Well, the good news is that we can do something about it, and it's starting to treat each other like friends. We can teach our head the behavior of being understanding, compassionate and patient with us, as we would be with our best friend. This can be trained and learned, no one is doomed to spend their entire lives punishing themselves that way. If you really want to change, then start today .

When a good relationship with oneself is established, external relationships occur from another place, more sincere and understanding. If the words you speak are impeccable, so will those that come out of your mouth.

Be impeccable with your words, for that is the first agreement.

It is simple, but not easy. But it is the path we must follow.
