The Billion Tree Campaign enters a second phase

Let's plant together 7 Billion trees by 2009!

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is launching a global campaign to plant trees. Under the name Let's Plant for the Planet: A Billion Tree Campaign, people, communities, businesses and industries, civil society, organizations and governments will be encouraged to make a promise of contribution to plant trees on this website with the aim of planting at least one billion trees worldwide every year.

”We have little time to avoid damage and economic weakening caused by climate change. The solutions are numerous and, as many economists say, affordable compared to the costs of complacency. The goods and services provided by forests are worth a billion if not millions of millions of dollars in the global economy. Forests are natural and economically important carbon wells, capable of capturing carbon from the atmosphere and keeping it in logs and branches. Globally, forests cover only a third of what it once was. It's time to totally change the trend, it's time to act.
