What is Thai massage?

Thai massage is a type of Traditional Thai Medicine massage, which combines Traditional Chinese Medicine with Ayurveda. Thai massage means old-fashioned massage .

This is a stretching and depth massage that is performed with the patient lying on the floor on a future tatami. The therapist puts pressure on acupressure points that run on lines that cross the body called sen or vasos, in a harmonic rhythm where The therapist's breathing is harmonized with that of the patient.

Thai massage helps eliminate toxins and release energy (qi) by providing a complete sense of physical and mental relaxation.

Origin of Thai massage

Thai massage and Thai medicine were created by Shivago Komarpaj (Jivaka Komarabhacca). This doctor created the four branches of traditional Thai medicine consisting of nutritional medicine, herbal remedies, spiritual practices and Thai massage.

This massage as practiced today is a combination of healing traditions from China, India and Southeast Asia, there is not even a theoretical framework or strict routine to practice it.

The theory of Thai massage is that the human body is impregnated with air (Yom) that enters the lungs and then crosses the body through 72, 000 "senna" or "vessels."

The therapist manipulates the points through these lines after stimulating them through yoga stretches, which move the lom by means of a pump connected to the patient's breathing.

Thai massage techniques

The goal of Thai massage is to stimulate and harmonize the flow of energy in the patient's body and balance the fundamental elements of the body:

  • Earth : Solid particles such as bones and muscles
  • Water : Blood and body secretions.
  • Fire : Metabolism and digestion.
  • Air : The circulation of blood and breathing.

Thai massage techniques include the disciplines of traditional massage treatment; muscle tamping, osteopathy or chiropractic manipulation and acupressure, pressing with your fingers the power lines or acupuncture points.

Leg technique

The Thai leg massage technique is performed alone or in a group. The patient (s) dress in comfortable clothes and lie on a mat or tatami, on the floor. There they adopt various yoga poses and the masseuse begins their work .

To perform the massage, the therapist exerts a firm and rhythmic pressure on the patient's body using the hands, forearms, elbow, and even the legs and feet, following the lines of the body that commonly begin in the navel.

In this way the whole body of the recipient is stretched, the fingers and toes, the ears, the knuckles are cracked, the back is walked on and the body is arched in the cobra yoga position (bhujangasana).

Thai massage is a true art in Thailand, where it is known as nuad bo rarn, nuat phaen boran or nuad boran, and is practiced in medical centers, as well as in family settings and temples. In fact, it has a spiritual tradition, as it is practiced by Buddhist monks who base their practice on the principle of metta (compassion).
