THE FOURTH HEAVEN: WHERE IS THE COURSE OF THE SUN AND THE MOON

1 Then those men took me and took me to the fourth heaven, where they made me see the route, displacements and all the irradiation of light from the sun as well as the moon.

2 And I was able to measure their trajectories and collate their brightness, checking that the sun has a beam of light seven times more intense than that of the moon.

3 I also saw their orbits and the cars in which both are transported, which advance like the wind at a dizzying speed and turn night and day without rest.

4 There are also four stars of the first magnitude to the right of the car of the sun, each of which has under its orders a thousand stars, and another four to the left, each of which also has a thousand stars at its command, making a total of eight thousand stars, which accompany the sun continuously.

5 By day the car drives fifteen myriads of angels and at night a thousand angels. Hexaptérigos angels precede the car, while a hundred celestial spirits are responsible for giving them fire.

6 And there are flying spirits that look like two birds, one similar to the phoenix and one similar to the chalcedony, both with a lion's face and feet, a tail and a crocodile's head; they are like purple, just like the rainbow in the clouds; its size is nine hundred measures; its wings are of angels, twelve corresponding to each one. These are the ones that drag the float of the sun - bringing with it dew and heat.

7 and, following the Lord's orders, (they) spin it and he stands and leaves again between heaven and earth with the brightness of his rays.

EAST AND WESTERN DOORS OF THE FOURTH HEAVEN

8 Then the two men took me to the eastern part of this sky and showed me the doors through which the sun rises in due time, according to the convolutions of the moon throughout the year and with according to the calendar number of day and night.

9 And I saw six large, open doors, each of which was sixty-one and a-quarter stadiums. Not without having scrupulously taken action, I could appreciate such magnitude, which corresponds to the doors through which the sun rises, advances towards sunset, balances and enters every month.

10 Forty-two days go out through the first door, through the second thirty-five, through the third thirty-five, through the fourth thirty-five, through the fifth thirty-five, and through the sixth forty-two. Then go back departing from the sixth door as time passes and enters through the fifth door thirty-five days, by the fourth thirty-five, by the third thirty-five, for the second thirty-five. And so the days of the year end at the rhythm of the four seasons.

11 Again, those men took me to the western part of the sky and showed me six large doors, open and placed face to face in the same arrangement as those in the eastern part. Through them the sun sets according to the count of three hundred and sixty-five days and a quarter, and in this way, through the western gates, the sun reaches its sunset.

12 When he comes out of the western gates, four hundred angels take away his crown and take it to the Lord, spinning it together with his chariot, so that the sun runs out of light the seven night hours

13 And at the eighth hour of the night they bring the angels four hundred the crown and put it on again.

THE STICKS OF THE ELEMENTS OF THE SUN

14 Then the elements called the phoenix and chalcedony sing a song, so that all the birds wave their wings in jubilation to the Giver of light and sing like this:

15 The Giver of light is arriving to give it to his creation.

16 And they taught me the computation of the sun's path and the doors through which it enters and leaves. 17 These are the great doors that God made (as) the calendar of the year; for this reason the sun is a great object of creation.

ON THE COURSE OF THE MOON

18 Another computation concerning the moon showed me those men: all their trajectories and convolutions, as well as the twelve large and eternal doors on the eastern side, through which the moon enters and rises at the usual time.

19 For the first (gate) exactly thirty-one days enter the solar zone, for the second exactly thirty-five days, for the third exactly thirty days, for the fourth exactly thirty days, for the fifth thirty-one days so exceptional, for the sixth exactly thirty-one days, for the seventh exactly thirty days, for the eighth thirty-one days exceptionally, for the ninth thirty-one days exactly, for the tenth thirty days exactly, for the eleventh thirty one day exactly and for the twelfth twenty two days exactly.

20 And in the same way through the western gates - in correspondence with the circuit and the number of the eastern gates - it marches and turns year after day.

21 The solar year consists of three hundred and sixty-five days and a quarter, while the lunar year is three hundred and fifty-four, twelve months ago. Counting to twenty-nine days per month, he has eleven days left in relation to the solar cycle, which are the epacts of the moon. This great cycle includes five hundred thirty-two years.

22 In quarters he marches for three years, the fourth (year) meets exactly: this is the reason why (the quarters) do not come into account - outside the sky - three consecutive years and why they are not added to the number of the days, since they change the times of the year, two new months of full moon and another two of a waning quarter.

23 And when the western doors are over, turn around and go to the east with its light.

24 And so she goes day and night through the celestial circles, below the remaining orbits, faster than the wind in the sky.

25 And there are also flying spirits, each angel corresponding to six wings. 26 The lunar cycle has seven counts and verifies a complete revolution every nineteen years.

27 In the middle of the sky I saw armed soldiers who served the Lord with eardrums and musical instruments and sang a pleasant melody without interruption, causing me great delight to hear them.

OF THE ASSUMPTION OF ENOCH TO THE FIFTH HEAVEN

1 Then those two men took me and drove me to the fifth heaven, where I saw an innumerable number of warriors called grigori.

2 His appearance was like men, although his height was greater than that of the great giants; His face was sad and the silence of his lips was perpetual.

3 And there was no one to serve in the fifth heaven.

4 Then I said to the two men who accompanied me: ―Why are they so sad and (have) their shameful faces and taciturnal mouth and why there is no service in this heaven?

5 (To which) the two men answered me: “These are the grigori who apostatized from the Lord - two hundred myriads in total - together with their leader Satanael,

6 and those who followed in their footsteps and are now rusted and submerged in a thick fog in the second heaven.

7 These are those who, from the throne of the Lord, descended to the earth, to the place called Hermon, staining the earth with their misdeeds.

8 The daughters of men commit many abominations at all times of this century, breaking the law, mixing (with them) and begetting the great giants, the monsters and the great iniquity.

9 And for this reason (the Lord) condemned them in a great judgment, while they mourn their brothers and await their confusion on the great day of the Lord.

10 Then I said to the Grigori: “I have seen your brothers (and have witnessed) their works, their torments and their great prayers;

11 I have also prayed for them, but God has condemned them (to be) under the earth until the end of the earth and of heaven for centuries.
