The Medicine of Tomorrow by Héctor Díaz

The current Health Systems, officially accepted in the West, remain with many difficulties: Increasing costs, poor service, lack of staff, a chasm of separation in the relationship between doctor - patient, loss of human perspective, people who they cannot access healthcare because they lack the means ...

And above all, it plans a vision that fosters these difficulties, the mechanistic vision of reality: The body is a machine, a set of parts and parts that, thanks to the merciless passage of time, can do nothing but break down.

As someone who takes the car to the workshop, we go to health centers around the world to check our wheels, grease our joints, and fill our motor, our vital energy, with substances that allow us to walk a few more kilometers.

The old “Ars Medicina”, the art of healing of doctors, that “clinical eye” that the long-awaited town doctor had so well developed that he knew, with taking the pulse or with a simple glance, what happened to the person in question, today it has been lost in endless roads known as specializations.

Everything is specialized, or rather, divided. That fateful day, when the body came to the doctor's office ...

  • I have come to ... -he tried to express the body.
  • I am very sorry - answered the doctor without taking the screen off the computer - today you are not a whole body, we have decided that your liver does not talk to your kidney, and your large intestine ignores the lung.
  • But…
  • I'm sorry ... orders from above.
  • But it hurts ...
  • Yes, I know, but we can't do anything. You will have to go to the specialist.

As a great doctor said, unfortunately already deceased ... the specialist ... "The one who knows the most, about what is not known."

By losing the overall vision, the reality about the body: It is not a machine, and Yes, a beautiful instrument integrated, coherent, full of consciousness, meaning and Unity. Set of all life experiences and events; molecules, yes, also, as well as emotions, thoughts, beliefs and spirituality ... That lost vision of the body has caused many people, every day, evicted, seek answers in the wide world of alternative therapies.

This is the current scenario ... the world of Health, today ... but let's look at the world of Tomorrow ...

With spyglass in hand, like the ancient navigators, we can afford to sail the seas of time and see what is hidden under the concerns, desires and dreams of future doctors and patients.

What appears on the horizon?

The first sighted lands bear the qualification of the first lesson to be learned by the doctor, "Humility, " and at his side, beautiful and beautiful as the previous one, a large island, "Respect."

In this first stop, we can see how the white coat doctor is no longer on an elevated and unattainable pedestal, looking at his patients from above.

Humility is the stethoscope of the future, in which the doctor is a companion, a facilitator, a catalyst of the individual's own health resources, and never again the savior on whom the world rests, or the criticisms and lawsuits from the patients.

Where Iatrogeny (death by medical procedures), currently the leading cause of hospital mortality in the world to forced marches, no longer exists.

Where, after the Revolution of the Protocols (so it was called), human individuality was recognized. What does that mean? What was already known in ancient times: It is not allowed to treat two people in the same way.

It will be remembered then, with tenderness and understanding the folly of Yesterday's medicine ... For many centuries, physicists and mathematicians refused to accept Medicine at the Academy of Sciences, and rightly so. Medicine is not a science. It's an art!. The same conditions can never be found in two people, even if they have the same pathology, neither being twin brothers, nor even sharing the same genetic code ...

Medicine cannot reproduce the same results empirically, simply because the human being is unique, his circumstances are unique, his environment (relational and family environment) is unique ... etc, etc, etc.

But let's not stop in yesterday ... Let's continue through those beautiful waters of the future ...

In these early stages, Listening is the main medicine, the Look the surgeon's scalpel, the Embrace the doctor's greeting, and the Silence and even a Compassionate thought are the most important medical tools of the day to day.

Let's go a little further without looking away from the spyglass

The worldview, the way of understanding life and disease, changed radically:

The disease is no longer a war against death, but a struggle for Life.

Death is no longer the opposite of Life, but one more state; and the disease becomes an exquisite lesson, a learning strategy, a personal challenge where a vital teaching is hidden, a lesson of Love, usually towards oneself ...

A vision of the world that places the human being at the center of his own universe, responsible and creator of his health and illness, with an immense inner power to embrace the lessons that pain and disease brings, and an infinite potential to go through the door of change and reinvent itself.

The dehumanization and the class vision of the human being does not exist in the Medical System of the future. Doctor and person (never again patient), establish a heart- to-heart relationship , where one's illness involves both an immersion in the deep world of teaching and in a reality that puts manifestly, when the person is healed, all humanity is healed.

A system where the doctor touches the heart of the person, and the person touches the heart of the doctor.

A medical system where the Symptom is never the enemy, but the most loyal friend ... The desperate cry of our body that tries to be heard ... and where disease is just the instrument that life uses for it (Life with capital letters) become meaningful.

Significant: It has a why and a why. It has a Direction, a Purpose and a Sense.

Driven by the flow of time to places farther afield

There, the Physician no longer exists. The Human Being is his own physician.

He has finally discovered how to use the infinite healing resources of his own body. He has contacted his healing essence and has learned to use his hands and his whole Being in the creation of his Health. Fully aware, fully responsible, of their actions, their thought processes, their feelings and their creative beliefs .

The person manages their Health, and lives according to their own parameters and potential.

There, Medicine is a mere memory, a word used by the ancients at that time of ignorance (the Stone Age call it ), and there is no more medicine to go through of Life, and its continuous miracle

To finish looking at the horizon, hopeful for a promising Present, in which complementary medicines (life is not alternative but complementary) are part, every day and forced marches, of the reality and life of millions of people on this planet, and where conventional medicine, little by little opens its doors to a more integrative medicine, a reflection of Dr. Jorge Carvajal Posada:

The greatest Illness is ignorance about our own Healing Potential

Personally, I love the vision of tomorrow. Now it only remains, to lean my shoulder and, as humanity, to build it Today.
