The Archangel Michael is the protector of the Christian Church, responsible for dealing with Satan, so he is represented as an angel with armor carrying a sword or spear.

But this warrior image also symbolizes his quality as a defender against the forces of evil that lurk every human being: ignorance, unconsciousness and attachment to the material and emotional.

His name means " Who as God ?" And is the head of God's armies in the Islamic, Jewish and Christian religions. According to Judaism, it was Michael who announced the birth of Isacc and also who protected the people of Israel during their march through the desert.

Who is Archangel Michael?

Archangel Michael is for the Christians the protector of the Church and is also considered the lawyer of the people chosen by God .

The Catholic Church raises him as patron and protector of the Universal Church, instead the Coptic Church considers him the first of the seven archangels along with Gabriel, Uriel and Rafael .

The Archangel Michael will be in charge of playing the trumpet on the day of the rapture and is responsible for facing and frustrating Satan, who is his main enemy for being the archangel of the angels of evil.

It is because of his combative character that he is represented as an angel with a Roman general's armor, carrying a sword or spear and threatening a demon or a dragon.

There are also representations where you can appreciate weighing souls on a scale. According to tradition, Archangel Michael will be responsible for that primary task when the Final Judgment arrives .

The Archangel Michael in Judaism

The Archangel Michael was, along with the Archangels Gabriel and Rafael, who announced the birth of Isaac and protected the people of Israel during their prolonged march through the desert.

Judaism invokes the Archangel Michael as the one who protects the synagogues and it is for that reason that in the liturgy of Yom Kippur - Day of Forgiveness - the sermon concludes with the words: " Michael, Prince of Mercy, pray for Israel ."

In the Talmud, the relationship of the Archangel Michael with the other angels is compared to that of the High Priest with the people of Israel. In the same way that the Archangel Michael would have been Moses' main interlocutor on Mount Sinai .

According to rabbinic tradition, Miguel is called "Prince of the nations" and is Israel's lawyer against Satan the accuser.

This belief of seeing Michael as the defender of the Hebrews has been since the times of the biblical patriarchs. It is for this reason that Rabbi Ellezer ben Jacob states that it was Michael who rescued Abraham from the furnace where he had been thrown by Nimrod.

Michael was one of the three men who visited Abraham at the time, to announce the birth of Isaac and also visited Lot to announce the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

This archangel is named countless times in the Jewish texts and there are some Midrash that describe Michael as the Great Teacher that Moses had during the Exodus .

He was also the one who protected the Israelites from Pharaoh's armies before crossing the Red Sea.

The Archangel Michael in Christianity

The veneration enjoyed by the Archangel Michael is based on the New Testament readings and some references found in the Old Testament.

In the Apocalypse it reads: “There was a great battle in the heavens and Michael with his angels fought against the Dragon, defeated them and there was no place in Heaven for them. It was then the Dragon, the Ancient Serpent, the Devil or Satan, thrown to the earth and his angels with him. ”

In other readings, as in the Epistle of St. Jude, it is said that when the Archangel Michael disputed with the devil the possession of the body of Moses, he did not dare to mention the word "curse" but used the expression: " The Lord te rebuke ".

It is also mentioned when Satan claims the body of Moses for himself, arguing that the Patriarch had been responsible for the death of many Egyptians. That is when Archangel Michael is enraged, he fights with him and defeats him .

Government and ecclesiastical authorities recognized the virtues of this winged creature. Emperor Constantine attributed to Miguel the defeat of his adversaries and it was for this reason that he ordered to build very close to Constantinople, an impressive church in his honor.

A concrete reference to the Arc Miguel Angel is the witnessed apparitions of Fátima, in 1916. She claimed to have seen the angel kneel, lamenting the skepticism of the unbelievers, praying prayer n by ly and by the Lord. In his next appearance, the Michelangelo asks again the practice of prayer, sacrifices and prayers.

The Arc Miguel Angel in the different religions

Protestant church

In the days of the Protestant Reformation, the Anglican and Lutheran churches share the ideas that exist about the Michelangelo, with the Catholic, Coptic and Orthodox churches, but it is not so with the concepts of the so-called restorationists .

Restorationists

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints consider Ad n and Miguel as the same person and are the only one they call arc l.

Jehovah's Witnesses

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Michael and Jesus are the same spiritual creature, before arriving on Earth as after returning to Heaven.

Seventh-day Adventists

The Seventh-day Adventist Church, in its Fundamental Beliefs, confirms the divinity of Jesus but not as a created being, but as a God in himself with complete authority and total power.

Throughout the Bible, the title of Archangel is only used in reference to Michael.

In Thessalonians it is said: "... because the Lord himself with a command voice, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, will descend from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise first."

An additional element of Adventists is the etymological meaning of Michael. It means who like God? and the only one who is like God is Jesus, for being his son and for sharing all his divine attributes.

The balance represents Justice, Balance and Order . In the balance, bad and good deeds rest, which will be balanced by love and kindness.

When Archangel Michael carries a bunch of keys, he is representing his power to open the gates of Heaven to souls who, thanks to their good thoughts, have earned entry.

The chains represent their enormous power to break the vices and attachments that enslave the human being.
