In this way, we will reduce the probability of suffering from different diseases.
Meditation and stress, by Doctor Daniel López Rosetti, Comments by Gisela S.
A few years ago, enough, when I made my first pesitos I paid a trip to my dad and my mom, I didn't have a passport. I paid a trip to my mom and dad. One day my dad calls me and thanks me on the phone and tells me a number of things. The next day my mother calls me crying. My dad had died of cardiac arrest in a hotel in Seville, nobody had cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR.
Quickly they gave me my passport, I went to look for the body and my mother crying. When I came back hold as much as I could. The holidays arrived, I went to the coast, here the Lucila del Mar and on the 14th day of vacation I began to feel a little bad, but I am a doctor so I did what I do not recommend, I self-medicated I did not walk very, very well.
Then the days passed, I still did not walk very well and I began to hide, I put on the stethoscope I said say “thirty-three” I began to check one side of the lung, the other and the truth that as a doctor I do not have the peace of mind of ignorance and I was diagnosed with a pleura effusion l. I went and took an x-ray that confirmed the presumptive diagnosis, I returned to Buenos Aires a series of diagnoses were made, I will not delve into these details because it does not matter, but the truth is that I had a diagnosis of pleural tuberculosis.
What had happened to me? He had suffered, suffering has another name called stress, stress has alarm, resistance and exhaustion.
Endure all I had to endure until the moment I couldn't take it anymore I went on vacation, I relaxed and there you can have a heart attack, a stroke, a seizure, immuno-depression as in my case and some infection.
What has happened?
Stress that became chronic and was sustained over time.
What is stress stress?
It is a relationship between loads versus resistance and the truth is that there are some medications that are very useful for working it. We can exemplify it with a scale, on one side of the scale are the loads that I must resist and on the other side my resistance capacity . When the loads exceed my resistance capacity, symptoms appear , symptoms that make me feel, that make me understand that my body sends me in terms of information. These loads are definitely like a truck that carries loads usually as if it were this one that can carry one, another and another load. T work , family, existential issues, doubts, external pressures, society, pickets or whatever they want from outside but above all what is within one.
These loads are exceeding our resistance capacity until one day they exceed it. Then the load overcomes that resistance and the faithful of the balance leans towards the side of stress, appearing then, signs and symptoms.
What is a symptom?
A symptom is a headache , fever, stomach ache, shortness of breath, nervousness, insomnia, whatever you think it is, it can be a symptom. But for us who work on this, a symptom is not a symptom. A symptom is information. When you come to the office and tell me your symptoms, I don't feel it. I empathize but I am not sorry but for me it is information and I make diagnosis. And the truth is that the doctor we are closest to is ourselves. Therefore, we must listen to the messages of the body.
Stages of stress
The first stage of stress, after we consider all symptoms, and I would like you to take away this, which I am going to tell you. When your head hurts, know that your head hurts, when you have heartburn, you have heartburn, when you have back pain, you have back pain but, apart from having those three things, you have information that your body is sending so they know something happens.
Stress begins with perception, reality does not exist except from our own mental processes, that is, reality is what I think it is and that is called perception that is not reality but my interpretation of reality.
When I perceive a stressful situation, when I think something starts to stress me, the first thing that will happen is that change of behavior and change of habits. Maybe he who smokes more will start smoking more because he will have it as a compulsive, non-substitute c- wave . Then he who smoked ten, will smoke twenty. I don't smoke but I borrowed this, I'm going to give the money back to the one who lent it to me and I'm going to do it a favor by breaking this. The truth is ... that that can happen as compulsive non-substitute behavior and the one who eats, can eat more, the one who takes drugs, can get high more, the one who drinks wine, alcohol or whatever can take more as compulsive behavior, not substitute
And we are, then, in that second stage of stress syndrome. First perceive after changes in behaviors and habits and, if I do not compensate for my stress situation, I will manifest symptoms. Each of us has different symptoms. Some have headaches, others fear, others insomnia, other muscle aches, others impaired concentration, judgment, memory, other gastric acidity, any symptoms.
What happens that each of us, in general, have one or two symptoms. The symptom that perhaps was palpitations, but compensate for stress will end up being a disease.
This is what we see in this graph that is the stress chain. Perception later but the compensation, behaviors and habits, smoking more, scratching my nose more if I have a bad character I will get worse and so on until a symptom appears , gastric acidity, insomnia, whichever you want, alterations of the ovarian cycle, which want. and after these symptoms, but compensated, the stress reached a disease situation.
In short, stress is a relationship between loads and responses, it is the backpack I carry. A backpacker carries the backpack properly and has his normal day. Two things can happen, that one day the backpack is very heavy or it may happen that one day with the same weight of the backpack loses strength because it is larger, by whatever it was, or both at the same time. And the weight of the backpack exceeds the resistance capacity, then there appear the symptoms of stress and the possibility of suffering a disease is conditioned.
But the first thing that happens, in the case of stress, is that we are not happy. The first thing that happens in stress is that the person is not happy.
How is stress treatment addressed?
There are many things to talk about, as it says there, there is a medical aspect, there is diagnosis, there are molecules, there are substances, there are treatments, there are things to do. Also, there are behavioral, psychological, cognitive issues. There are also things to do. Perhaps the final frontier of stress management is the philosophy with which we approach life, we approach our projects, we approach our reality.
Tools to manage stress.
We are going to name a stress management tool of the many there are, which is called meditation. Meditating is a normal process, meditating is not something esoteric, strange or religious although the psychobiological process of meditation may have spiritual significance.
Meditation is a biological process. Already in the year 1812, Joseph Gall developed a pseudoscience called phrenology in which he said that different parts of the head had different functions. The point is that it was not exactly as the phrenologists said, but today we certainly know that the brain has areas that specialize in certain functions. And we have two hemispheres, the right and the left, there is not one more important than the other, both are equally important. They are like the two wings of a bird, but they have discretely different functions. The left is logical, mathematical, sequential, analytical, rational, executive and has a particularity, has a sort of clock because he, the left hemisphere knows the passage of time, is related to time . Law, on the other hand, is a hemisphere that has holistic, general, intuitive, emotional, creative, musical, spiritual functions. I repeat we are the union of the two, this hemisphere (right) does not know the time, the left does.
Did it ever happen to you that you were ecstatic watching I don't know a candle or watching a campfire? and did they stay like sonsos for a few minutes? A stove on the beach and how time did not pass? Did it happen to them?
It happened to all of us that we stayed like sonsos watching the fire. At that time we were meditating, the left hemisphere, rational, mathematical, always puts intrusive thoughts, to meditate is to set the attention of the left hemisphere on a focal object. When that happens and my left hemisphere is concentrated, my right hemisphere, which has no clock, enters a situation of ecstasy, which is called meditation. Where toxic substances fall in the blood and this is scientifically measured.
What can this object be? A candle, the fire, can be a Tibetan ceremonial wheel, it can be a Tibetan mandala, it can be the Rosary beads, regardless of the existence of God or not, but the repetitive sequence of the Rosary is a fact that makes the left hemisphere focus on that point and the law works freely. That is called meditating and is extremely beneficial.
I am going to invite you to do a sublingual as if you were a sublingual meditation aniolinist if you feel like it. It will take us a minute.
Put yourself in comfort, put your feet on the floor, as far as possible, close your eyes for a moment and mentally follow (read) my voice.
Breathe slowly through the nose, do not use the mouth, take a deep breath, bringing the air to an abdominal breath, the baby's breath swelling the belly, the air enters and the air comes out, the air enters, the air comes out. Everyone does it at their own pace, in time, enjoy it and concentrate on that respiratory process .
Imagine with your mind, in a deep and vivid way, how that column of air that passes through the nose, through the throat, through the chest, enters the lungs and expands the lung bases vitally oxygenating our body. They exhale the air, inspiration can take one, two, three, four. And the inspiration a little longer and we do it once more, we do it again and to the extent that our mind is focused on that breathing process of inspiration and expiration n, our brain, the left hemisphere, will be concentrating on it allowing peace, serenity and harmony.
Now at our own time, desire and will we will return very slowly to the here and now, when they see fit, they can open their eyes and connect with this moment.
This is meditation and this gives peace, serenity and calm. The truth is that meditation is a specific biological process that, among other things, allows the treatment of stress syndrome. It is an excellent medicine, has no adverse effects and is not bought in pharmacies, thanks.
