Have you heard about the seven deadly sins?

  • 2017

The seven sins are capital, they are mortal sins, since they are the source from which the other sins flow. All sin separates us from God, and capital sins do so severely. When we sin, we say to God: I want it my way, not your way.

As soon as we are willing to ask for God's forgiveness and empty ourselves of our sin, God can come to fill the void in our hearts that sin creates.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen says: As sin is an aversion to God, grace is the conversion to God. Our Lord does not say, I told you, I will fall. as. He does not desert us even though he is abandoned. He becomes, once we know that we are sinners. God never abandons us. Think of Peter and his denial of Christ in the Gospel. Peter sinned, but he repented, and was able to live the extraordinary plan that God had for his life.

Learning about the sins that cause us to stumble and lead us to defect from God can help us increase our knowledge of them in our lives. Below we have given you a list of the seven deadly sins and a brief description of each one to learn more about them, see how you can be susceptible to them, and know how we can stop committing them.

The seven capital sins

1- The Pride

Pride is a difficult fight for all of us. Pride is the capital sin of capital sins. All sins flow from pride. In fact, it was pride that caused the devil to turn away from God, and Adam fell into original sin.

Pride can be very destructive. That means that if we can keep pride under the control of our lives, then we will be able to work to get rid of other sins much more easily.

2- Greed

St. Paul calls greed "the root of all evil." It is natural to desire earthly goods and money in order to live well, but greed leads to this desire for an immoderate level.

Greed is the untidy love of the wealth or goods of the earth.

Money and possessions take an improper role in the life of a greedy person.

3- Anger

Anger is like an emotion, it is not a sin; It is neutral, since all emotions are like that. However, when the force of will is added, anger can quickly become sin.

When the will tells the emotion of anger to increase irrationally, it will ultimately flourish out of control, and it becomes a "mortal" sin.

4- Laziness

Laziness is a very modern sin in our current culture, it probably exhibits this in a much stronger way than past cultures have. Dr. Peter Kreeft explains laziness is "the lack of joy when faced with God as our supreme joy." Laziness deprives us of God. It is the mortal sin of indifference.

Laziness is depressing because it takes us away from the search for God, without which we cannot find true happiness in life.

5- Envy

Envy is competitive. Unlike the other capital sins that give another temporary satisfaction, envy does not always bring someone pleasure. It takes away the joy, brings pain, and leads to other sins ... the worst being, hate.

The proud person is often arriving here: in envy. But the good news is that you don't have to be chained by envy any longer.

6- La Gula

Gluttony may not seem like a mortal sin to many, at first sight, especially if you can easily think about half a dozen times in recent history when you ate or drank without moderation. But the reality is that gluttony can be deadly when it takes us away from our ultimate goal, God.

Gluttony is an addiction, and addiction is an element of all sin, and sin prevents us from growing in relation to God.

7- Lust

Lust is considered one of the seven deadly sins . The fact that culture tries to make it look like "desires do not harm anyone" does not change their harmful nature for our souls and lives.

Lust is a very popular sin that blinds the mind. Like other sins, we really need to understand how lust hurts us in order to avoid it.

Lust is the disorderly desire for indulgence in impure sexual pleasure. Lust seeks sexual pleasure outside its own context of marriage.

The truth is that we do not escape these capital sins, however we can avoid it even if we know that it is difficult, without justification, because we are all sinners for a reason. Let's do good deeds, help those we can and be good people, in addition to loving God and our neighbors.
