Two lectures delivered at Threefold Farm, Spring Valley, New York and at Rudolf Steiner College, Sacramento. April 17-26, 2009

Rudolf Steiner tells us that the ancient Greeks spoke of the whole human being: spirit, soul and body, when the ancient words of the Sun, the words of Apollo resonated: “Human Soul, know yourself in the interweaving existence of the spirit, soul and body, in everything that flows down from the heights and works in the surrounding environment and rises through the forces of the members, know that this is the foundation of your being! ”(See Note 1 )

Rudolf Steiner tells us that this call resonated from a being responsible for leading a heavenly wisdom to Earth to stimulate a spiritual alchemy in the human soul that would lead to this self-knowledge. This being that the Greeks saw intimately as Sophia and that Dante saw as Lady Philosophy, was revealed by Rudolf Steiner in our times as Anthroposophy .

But how can we have a true spiritual encounter with this being? How, in this materialist era, do we find Anthroposophy, so that we can know ourselves?

In the everyday physical world, our encounters with other people are usually precursors of our knowledge about those people. That is, we see what they look like, we hear their voice, we notice the warmth or coldness, we feel a certain affinity, a sympathy or maybe an antipathy in our hearts, and this usually leads us to a desire to know this person more deeply, more fully, to deepen in his very being, in his thoughts, feelings and will, to know what "moves" him, or to pass by in a superficial way, and hopefully, friendly.

We can describe it like this:

We know / see the human being; we talk with / listen to the human being; we have a feeling towards him or her; We decided to get to know the human being better.

For many of us, although we may not be aware of it at all times, our first encounter with the Being of Anthroposophy happens at the moment when we read a single word that Rudolf Steiner said or wrote, but since we live in a materialistic era, When our awareness of the spiritual world is dimmed, it is often easy to ignore this first encounter and think that a book can never contain so many pages of information alone.

But what do we find in a book?

As an author and book reader, I have come to realize that a book is a window to the writer's soul. In the soul of the writer one finds the content of the relationship of the self with the Word and with the World, that is, a memory of those inspirations, imaginations and intuitions of human beings and superior beings that have worked in the author and have allowed to write the book; Whether the relationship is conscious or not, it is there. Once a book has been read and the content of this relationship has entered the reader's soul, it begins to magically connect the reader with the origin of those inspirations, inspirations and intuitions, whether the good or bad origin. It is like an introduction of types. That is why it is important that we develop awareness and discernment of who and what the author is introducing us to!

The difference between our encounter with human beings and our encounter with superior beings and deceased human beings is that in some sense the order is reversed (see Note 2 )

In the suprasensible world we have to get to know a superior being or a deceased human being before finding them; we have to prepare our souls and train our thinking, feeling and will and then we have to wait. The rest is a matter of the spiritual world and the encounter can only arise through grace. The spiritual world and the higher being must then come to us. In light of this, how can we prepare for an encounter with Anthroposophy?

A true conscious encounter with Anthroposophies happens gradually. At the beginning we can take a book by Rudolf Steiner and we can feel a familiarity with the content of this book. It seems as if a memory arose from words we have already heard before.

It is a spiritual Remember that happens in Will. A desire to know and read more may arise at this stage. It moves us (the members) towards the acquisition of new books, going to conferences, etc. Gradually the thoughts and words of Rudolf Steiner lead us to create our own imaginations of the content of Spiritual Science and we begin to feel the superior being that infused, in the soul of Rudolf Steiner, wisdom so that he could create a form for the Cosmic Intelligence of Christ that could be understood by the human beings of our time. We listen to this being through the words of Rudolf Steiner and this voice becomes ours when we read. This now begins to ignite in us an extraordinary love that ascends through our feelings and drives us towards greater conscious awareness of this being.

We become increasingly aware of a spiritual enthusiasm that is felt in our life of feelings. Now we get to the point where we realize that it is only through knowledge that we have awakened to what really lives after this knowledge, because the being that inspires it is one with the same knowledge! Only then are we prepared for the moment of grace when we find the being suprasensibly. This links our thoughts with our memory, that is:

We have the perception or vision of a thought that is accompanied by understanding and a feeling of unity, of knowing the being. To condense the above: We must get to know the superior being first through study and loving interest before beginning to have a memory of the superior being. As we wake up and become more aware and our love for the higher being grows, when we become so united, so in harmony with this being that we think as one. Then we are ready to meet the being suprasensibly! This meeting means that we are no longer the one we were before the meeting. We have had to change to have the encounter, we have had to become one with this being, and this relationship that we have fostered and developed has made us different. Seeing the being, we therefore also see what we have done of ourselves. How we have changed and what we have become through this meeting.

This is what Anthroposophy wants us to do. She tells us: Man, give yourself a sense of knowing yourself!

In the next two days I will describe how such a supersensitive encounter is facilitated by the Alchemical process that one experiences when working with the Foundation Stone Meditation; a meditation that can be said to be the voice of Anthroposophy itself, speaking to us.

As the study is the first step towards our encounter with being, our first conference will ask us these questions: Who is the being of Anthroposophy? What is its nature and what are its tasks? We will examine the Magi and the Shepherds and how they are united by the Foundation Stone Meditation through an Alchemical process that elaborates thought, feeling and will.

Our second conference will then consider this Alchemical process as it ascends again from the will to the life of feeling and will, creating new forces of cognition. We will explore how this relates to our relationship with the being of Anthroposophy and how she moves us through the Meditation of the Foundation Stone towards an encounter with her and through her towards an encounter with the being of Christ.

In our esoteric effort there is a caveat that we must keep in mind. This warning is twofold: the first aspect of this warning is that if we are to work properly with the Foundation Stone Meditation, we can only do it in a state of complete consciousness, that is, it should not become something we do by heart; The second aspect of this warning is that when we embark on the search for knowledge, we do so by creating true images of the knowledge we are receiving. We should bring knowledge to the blood of our heart and allow it to beat with the fire of enthusiasm for the sake of truth. Rudolf Steiner tells us that it is the deepest call of Anthroposophy to shine in our souls, the fullness of truth, only if we are open to it. So let us open ourselves to Anthroposophy and to be the guide, always remembering that there the spiritual experiences are individual and that I will be offering an experience in the following conferences.

Only after considering the above can we begin to address the issue of this mystery with proper reverence, even if we do it with hesitant words.

Who is the being of Anthroposophy and what is its relationship with the Meditation of the Foundation Stone?

Rudolf Steiner tells us that in the history of the evolution of the world, human beings have gone through various conditions during different planetary phases. These planetary phases he called Ancient Saturn, Ancient Sun, Ancient Moon, and Earth. He tells us that our evolution was made possible by the acts and sacrifices of higher spiritual beings, which make up nine hierarchies in the spiritual world: Angels, Archangels, Archai, Spirits of Form or Exusiai, Spirits of the Movement or Dynamis, Spirits of Wisdom or Kyriotetes, Spirits of Will or Thrones, Spirits of Harmony or Cherubim and Spirits of Love or Seraphim. He tells us that all these hierarchies act in the name of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

When we read the Meditation of the Foundation Stone from the first paragraph to the last we can see that it is an appeal to the human being to understand the descent from Ancient Saturn to the realm of matter, Earth, and the beings that cooperated in the development, not only of the earth but also of the human being himself:

In the fourth and final paragraph we are told about the darkness of the night and how through evil man fell lower than expected, but we are also told how Christ himself has descended to Earth through the Divine light of the Natural Soul to bring to human beings the power to redeem this fall in matter: first to redeem the physical body and the twelve senses to allow the human being to remain upright on its members; second to redeem the Etheric Body and the seven organs to allow speech development; and third to redeem the three aspects of the soul: thought, feeling and will, making it possible for human beings to think. These three ennoblements allowed humanity to freely develop the soul, but for humanity to do so, wisdom was necessary.

In the Foundation Stone Meditation we are told that along with this descent of Christ, the Light of the Spirit of the Worlds, the wisdom of cosmic Sophia was also descending to Earth. This wisdom would prepare mankind for the Incarnation of Christ and descend in two currents: the current from the upper / outer and the current from the inner / lower. These two currents represented the various ways of acquiring knowledge. Wisdom then, through these two currents, sought to create the right conditions for a development of mood forces capable of understanding radiant knowledge such as Michael's day, Cosmic Intelligence about Christ. When Christ incarnated on Earth, the human being who was his recipient, Jesus of Nazareth, was a representative of these two currents, meaning that from then on, the human being must combine these two currents of wisdom, which until now had existed in the world, in a single stream to understand the Christ freely and fully. These two currents became known as the current of the Magi and the current of the Shepherds.

Let's take a look at how this happens. The grandeur of the Cosmic Sophia, made it impossible for her direct descent into the soul of humanity, this meant that another being had to take on the task of being the mediator of this wisdom for man. Who was this being?

Rudolf Steiner spoke for the first time about the place of this being in our time, some months before the laying of the Foundation Stone for the first Goetheanum. At his inaugural conference at the First General Assembly of the Anthroposophical Society in 1913 (see Note 3 ), he told the Anthroposophists that they had to think about the Anthroposophical As a living being, a being with an evolution and a biography. (See Note 4 ) In a different conference (see Note 5 ) He indicated that Anthroposophy was a being Invisible human, whose destiny and path went hand in hand with those of humanity, only in an accelerated way. We were asked to enter into relationship with this being, go to him with all our questions, our hopes and our fears, that we, as Anthroposophists, should not do anything before consulting to this being

But who was this illusory being, what was his nature and what have been and remain his tasks? Rudolf Steiner gave us indications that in the beginning, Anthroposophy had the nature of an Archangelic being; which was of the same substance as Michael and developed in accordance not with earthly laws, but with solar laws (see Note 6 ). This suggests that Anthroposophy possessed the nature of an archangel and in this case what we gathered from Steiner's lectures on the Four Sacrifices of Christ, this was also the nature of the Soul. Nat.

What does this mean? Let's take a look at the Native Soul. The Natural Soul was that being composed of the virgin or non-fallen ethers: the Chemical Ether and the Ether of Life of Adam. In Adam, the Native Soul had gone through the four planetary stages of Ancient Saturn, Ancient Sun, Ancient Moon and a part of our current stage, Earth, but it was on Earth, during the times of Lemuria, before Jehovah breathed the spirit of the rudimentary ego into man, when these forces separated from Adam.

Natural Soul = Chemical Ether and Life Term of Earthly Adam

As these forces were separated before Adam was granted the ego, these forces were preserved before the effects of the Ca da and the decline in matter. This being was elevated and we are told that it was then protected in the Mother Lodge of Humanity, in the Solar Lodge or the sphere of the Sun. (see Note 7 ) The Natural Soul therefore relates to the Arc Angels (see Note 8 ) because the ethereal body before the Fall is of substance similar to that of the Spirit of Life (Ethereal Body / Spiritualized Budhi), which only they have fully obtained the Arc ngeles (see Note 9 ). The Natural Soul therefore had an affinity with the sphere of the Angels through the incarnation of the Solar Laws, just like Anthroposophy.

Affinity exists because Anthroposophy was a mirror image of the Natural Soul, that aspect that separated from Eve. (see Note 10 ) The Alchemists called her the Celestial Eve or the celestial twin. (see Note 11 )

Celestial Eve (Anthroposophy) = Chemical Ether and Life Term of Earthly Eve.

Now Rudolf Steiner tells us regarding the Natural Soul that these forces before the Fall became under the custody of the Solar Archangel Michael, the highest of all the Archangels of the Sun. It was this spiritual relationship between the Natural Soul and the Archangel Michael. which allowed the Natural Soul to become the bearer of the Being of Christ in the cosmos, to be His envelope during the sacrificial descent to the Earth, first in the sphere of the Sun as a star, from the sphere of the stars to the sphere of the Sun like a planet and then to the sphere of the Moon. Now, it is logical that in order to follow Christ in his sacrificial descent, the Natural Soul not only had to sacrifice his Archangelic nature but also his Angelic nature (see Note 12) when He incarnated in a physical body as a human being on Earth, the Jesus of the Gospel of Luke. He then participated in the fourth sacrifice of Christ: the Mystery of Golgotha, where he sacrificed his human body.

Heavenly Eve had a similar destiny. She had the task of becoming the recipient or bearer of the forces of another sublime being of the cosmos on her way to Earth: the unifying forces of the Divine Sophia. In the same way that the Natural Soul was the bearer of the individualizing masculine force of the universe: the Word, the extraordinary and powerful macrocosmic being of Christ, the Heavenly Eve had the task of bearing the unifying feminine Intelligence of the universe: the Wisdom of the powerful Being Macrocosmic of Sophia.

To accomplish this task she had to make her descent to Earth as the Natural Soul, making sacrifices. She, too, descended from the high solar sphere where she had her "home, " sacrificing her Archangelic nature to enter the sphere of the Angels (where she became the lowest member of the bribery being (see Note 13 ) of the Divine Sophia) Finally she sacrificed her Angelic nature, to become a human being. For Rudolf Steiner tells us that in her time she was a supersensitive human being, and in earthly evolution the stage of human being can only be reached by incarnating in a physical body. Thus at the turning point of the times the Heavenly Eve had a brief incarnation along with the Natural Soul. She was the Mary of the Gospel of Luke, who gave birth to her heavenly twin, the Jesus of the Gospel of Luke. Isn't this picture beautiful, the two heavenly twins coming together this way?

Michael, as Sophia's most powerful son, who participated in the sacrifices of the Natural Soul, also participated in the sacrifices of the Celestial Eve as he descended toward Earth. The difference here is that the descent of the Celestial Eve happened in the macrocosm, instead, it was a descent that happened through the microcosmic human soul.

Why was it necessary for Michael to follow this descent? Rudolf Steiner tells us that the Archangel Michael was the guardian of the substance that the Heavenly Sophia had created in our cosmos from above, from the sphere of the Spirits of Wisdom, below (see Note 14 )

What is this substance? This substance created by the Celestial Sophia comprises all knowledge, all conversations and communications, the creative thoughts of the world exchanged between higher beings relative to the full meaning of the Being of Christ and His acts for all earthly, past, present and future evolution. . This is what Spiritual Science refers to as the Cosmic Intelligence of Christ and the Meditation of the Foundation Stone as the "Radiant Light as the Day" of Michael. It was the task of Michael to administer this Intelligence until it was time to surrender or sacrifice his dominion to mankind, which happened from the moment of the Mystery of Golgotha.

To prepare human beings for Michael's sacrifice of Cosmic Intelligence, the Celestial Eve descended to Earth bringing Celestial Wisdom, the Light of the Spirit of the Worlds, to human souls that belonged to the currents of the Magi and of the Pastors, to prepare the faculty of logical thinking, necessary to receive and also understand the Cosmic Intelligence of Christ, but also to facilitate, like the Mary of the Gospel of Luke, the birth of the human vehicle for the Spirit of Christ: Jesus.

We can mark his preparation for the descent of Christ through his own descent into the human soul, in the various mood wraps made in the Egyptian-Chaldean-Greco-Roman times and in our own Anglo-German times: the Sensitive Soul, the Soul Intellectual, and the Conscious Soul respectively. The mentioned Being inspires "Creative thinking" in the development of the Conscious Soul. This is an awareness of the impulses of the creative will, a conscious wisdom or moral force that brings the perfection of the entire soul to fulfillment through the unification of the two wisdom currents of the Magi and the Shepherds in the human being . Let us study these currents more closely.

The Current of the Magi was the current of the North. The initiates of this current contemplated the vastness of the astral world and experienced there an expanded memory of what they had experienced in the time before birth, that is, during the time after the central moment (midnight) in the time between death and New birth. For this reason the mysteries belonging to this current are called the Mysteries of the Birth. These were the ecstatic mysteries of the worshipers of the Sun. The current of the Shepherds was the current of the South. The initiates of this current contracted in the soul below the level of thought to observe, through the etheric body, the karmic current of events that occurred in time after death, that is, before the central moment (midnight) . For this reason the mysteries belonging to this current were called the Mysteries of Death. These were the mysteries of the Dream in the Tempo of the Moon worshipers.

The unification of these two streams of mysteries happened at the turning point of the times, when the Solomon Jesus (Zarathustra), the largest representative of the Nordic Current joined the Jesus of the Gospel of Luke (Natural Soul), the representative of the Southern stream of Buddha. Together they were known as Jesus of Nazareth.

What has happened to the tasks of the two currents since the Mystery of Golgotha? From the Mystery of Golgotha, the current of the Magi, the current of the external spiritual perception related to the ancient Mysteries of the Birth went inwards, contracted, and eventually became “the arid, mathematical world- geometric ”of the thought that modern man extracts from his soul.

Geometry and Mathematics = Imagination Internally contracted from the thoughts of the Gods, Ancient Magi. After the Mystery of Golgotha, the path of thought of the meditative interior contemplation of the Shepherds went outside to become the arid way of looking at nature: Natural Science.

Natural Science = Expanded Inspirations Outwardly of the feeling and will of the Gods, Pastors Pastors. The forces of the ancient Magi, the mysteries of the Birth, which became the arid mathematics and the forces of the former Shepherds, the mysteries of Death, which became the Natural Science (see Note 15) can be redeemed only after Kali Yuga and the revelation of Anthroposophy on Earth, which allowed a conscious and free transformation of the soul.

Rudolf Steiner not only gave us the renewal of the ancient mysteries, the ancient initiatory paths of Birth and Death in Spiritual Science, a body of work comprising numerous lectures and books, but also performed two acts of Mystery that sealed the revelation of the new mysteries in the physical world:

The laying of the Foundation Stone in the shape of a double dodecahedron on the floor of the First Goetheanum, the Temple of the Word, the Temple of Truth, the Anthroposophy building, in September 1913.

The placement of the Suprasensible Love Foundation Stone, for the building of the suprasensible Temple of Anthroposophy, the etheric heart in the human soul at the Christmas Conference of 1923-24.

In the laying of the Foundation Stone of the First Goetheanum Rudolf Steiner gave the Anthroposophists the Macrocosmic Lord's Prayer that was a prayer of humanity to all hierarchies for the redemption of the physical, etheric, astral and I bodies, which was answered as we saw above, four times for the being of the Natural Soul: once when Christ was offered as a vehicle in his descent to Earth to redeem the twelve senses in the Physical Body; a second time when he offered himself to Christ to redeem the seven organs of the Etheric Body; a third time when he offered himself to Christ for the redemption of the Astral Body: thought, feeling and will; and finally when it was offered a fourth time for the redemption of the human self in the Mystery of Golgotha. (see Note 16) These sacrifices happened in the first case in the sphere of the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones, the sphere of the stars, in the second case in the sphere of the Kyriotetes, Dinamis and Exusiai, the sphere of the planets, in the third case in the sphere of the Archai, Archangels and Angels, the sphere of the Moon, and finally joining humanity on Earth in the fourth case at the Time Inflection Point.

Rudolf Steiner also incorporated into the architecture of the First Goetheanum a complete artistic renovation of the ancient mysteries of Birth and Death belonging to the former Magi and the Pastors, reached through of the synthesis and interweaving of musical forms, of color and light, which could only have been possible thanks to the help of the Holy Spirit (see Note 17)
