EFT: Emotional Freedom Techniques

  • 2018

Next, we introduce ourselves in the techniques of emotional freedom, also known as EFT . This is one of the most powerful alternative therapies that exist, hence we consider it of vital importance that everyone knows it.

EFT or Tapping, gentle tapping, is an alternative therapy that helps cure childhood traumas, phobias or fears, relieves pain and helps treat overweight, among other benefits.

This is a practice for which needles are not required. Instead, the fingertips are used to stimulate specific areas, more precisely at the meridian energy points of Chinese acupressure.

What is EFT or emotional freedom techniques?

The Techniques of Emotional Freedom or EFT for its acronym in English, is a therapy that combines ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology .

These techniques are based on the belief that our body's defense systems are activated either to fight or to flee the fight.

The organism is transformed in this way into an adrenaline pump, stresses the muscles and raises the blood pressure. This event increases the heart rate and increases the flow of sugar in the blood to give us extra energy.

In ancient times the stress factors were real problems that had to be overcome in order to survive. Today, we are rarely physically threatened, but in any case our defense mechanisms are activated, either by a negative memory or by some thought that has its roots in some trauma of the childhood.

The EFT helps stop these fight or flight responses by reprogramming our brain and our body so that we can act and react differently.

How to practice EFT or Tapping

Basically, the EFT technique consists in concentrating on the negative emotion while stimulating the meridian points of our body, giving soft touches with the fingertips.

It is necessary to focus intensely the fear, or the anxiety, the bad memory or whatever the aspect of a problem that has not been able to be solved, or any situation that affects us in the present moment.

While keeping the mind focused on the specific problem, the therapist uses the tips of his fingers to gently tap, five to seven times, at the meridian acupressure points.

Origins of the EFT technique

Thousands of years ago in China, medical specialists mapped the electrical system of our body . Fourteen energy paths, or meridians, were delineated, and techniques to stimulate certain points along them to release energy blockages were documented.

Acupuncture uses very thin needles to interfere at those specific points, acupressure or acupressure uses the fingers to press and massage at those points .

The EFT uses a softer or more subtle technique, that of making small touches with the fingertips.

This technique was released in 1995 by Gary Craig, an engineer at Stanford University. This scholar, from a young age recognized that the quality of thoughts was reflected in the quality of his life and since then he has dedicated his life to the development of Emotional Freedom Techniques, Tapping or EFT.

Now, you can also benefit from this alternative therapy . The EFT or emotional freedom technique has helped millions of people. If you feel that something in your life is not going well, maybe this can be a good therapy, since it links psychology with millennia of oriental knowledge.
