Then on this trip to the origin of the universe we will go back to Greek mythology, to talk about one of the primordial deities: the god Uranus .

“Gea began by giving birth to a being of equal length, the starry Uranus
to cover it in its entirety like a veil,
and be forever unshakable abode to the blessed gods. ”
- Hesiod, "Theogony"

Creation, the origin of the universe and our own appearance on Earth.

These and other questions have accompanied us since the beginning of our existence as a species.

And it is to that principle that we must go back . Well, over time, this response of which we are heirs changes its name and form. But it remains in essence.

Then on this trip we will go back to Greek mythology, to talk about one of the primary deities: the god Uranus .

Thus, we will begin at the beginning to discover ourselves from our origins. We will rescue the validity and importance of ancient myths .

And in this way, we will continue with the tradition of seeking to answer these same questions.

The Creation Myth

The ancient Theogony of Hesiod explains the creation in a very blunt way. In the beginning, there was Chaos, emptiness. From this chaos arose the Erebo, the darkness, and Nix, the night.

Also Eros, the most beautiful of the immortal gods (who some relate to gravity, the force that attracts bodies). And also (from Tartarus, the underworld) arises Gea, the Earth.

According to this myth, Gea (also known as Gaia) gives birth alone to a son of equal proportions as she: the god Uranus (Caelus in Roman mythology, Anu in Hurrian mythology, Sumerian, Assyrian and Babylonian).

Although the poet Cal maco states that Uranus is the son of Gea and ter (Aether), god of luminosity, son of the black Nix and the dark rebo, brother of Hemera, the day.

The god Uranus, a starry sky, envelops his mother and releases his seed in the form of water that bathes Gea and together they create plants, rivers and animals.

The Myth of the Castration of the god Uranus

According to the Theogonie of Hesiod, Gea and Uranus give birth together to a series of mythological entities, comprised of the hecat nquiros ( one hundred arms ), beings with one hundred arms and fifty heads, of unparalleled strength; the titans (who would receive this name then baptized by their father); and the cyclops.

The god Uranus, seeing the strength of his progeny, and for fear of being dethroned from the heavens by her, encloses them in the bosom of his mother Gea, who fills with pain by this measure begins to plot a plan to defeat him.

Thus, he forges a sickle of white steel and gives it to the youngest titron, Cronos , father of time, who, full of hatred towards his father, is about to attack him.

Uranus, vivid with love for Gea, wraps her again, and this, hiding her son in her hand, releases him. Cronos, using his weapon, cuts his father's genitals and throws them back randomly.

Thus, from the blood of the god Uranus spilled on the earth emerge the Erinias (Furies in Roman mythology), the Nymphs and the Giants, and from the genitals fallen in the deep waters of the sea a foam is created from which arises Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love.

Thus, Uranus is defeated, and before being locked up in Tartarus along with the Cyclops and the Hecatonchires he preaches the fall of his son Cronos also in the hands of one of his children. Prediction would come true in the Titanomaquia.

"The god Uranus, starry sky, envelops his mother and releases his seed in the form of water that bathes Gea and together they create plants, rivers and animals"

Descent of the god Uranus according to the Greeks

From the union of Uranus and Gea, heaven and earth, six titans are born:

  • Ceo, intelligence
  • Crío, father of Perses
  • Cronos, father of time
  • Hyperion, observation
  • Jápeto, father of Atlas and Prometheus
  • Ocean, huge river that circled the world

Also six titanids:

  • Febe, the one with the golden crown
  • Mnemósine, the memory
  • Rea, wife of Cronos
  • Tea, the view
  • Themis, justice and balance
  • Thetis, goddess of freshwater

The god Uranus and Gea also generate three cyclops:

  • Arges, the one who shines
  • Brontes, the thunder
  • Steropes, the one who gives the lightning

And finally, three hecatonchires:

  • Briareo, the strong
  • Coto, the force
  • Giges, fortress

After the defeat, three Erinias (Furies) emerge from the blood of the god Uranus spilled on Gea:

  • Alecto, the relentless
  • Megera, the jealous
  • Tisifone, the avenger

As well as the Giants (from ancient Greek ' born of the earth '), and the Melias (or Meliades), nymphs of ash trees.

Finally, and as we said before, Aphrodite Urania, the goddess of erotic love, is born from her genitals thrown into the sea.

Planet of the god Uranus

Although the god Uranus is a fundamental ancestor of all the Olympic gods, the evidence indicates that towards the classical times he has been losing cult.

However, the first planet of the so-called 'transpersonal', discovered in March 1781, has been baptized with its name: Uranus.

It should be clarified that the name of 'transpersonal' is given to three planets. In addition to the aforementioned, also to Neptune and Pluto, and refers to the psychic influence on consciousness due to the duration of their transit through each sign and the notorious psychic and biological effects on living beings on planet Earth.

The planet representing the god Uranus takes 84 years to go around the sun, and it takes approximately seven years for it to pass through each sign.

Uranus symbology and astrology

Perhaps we know the symbol of the planet Uranus, composed of two semicircles, one active and the other passive, connected to each other by a cross. And under that cross, there is a small circle.

This circle refers to spirituality, the elevation of thought . This thought is materialized in the central cross, and in turn unites the active intelligence of the mind, and the capacity for reception.

In that way, intuition is generated, a tuned intuition, which is the main energy principle of Uranus .

Astrologically, the planet of the god Uranus is within the classification of neutral planet, that is, it is neither male nor female. It has a positive polarity.

Its energetic vibration has to do with the cycles of change, instability, rupture and surprise.

Progress and innovation are also part of it, along with originality, technology, and curiosity and study of the Universe in its immensity.

However, it is undeniable that it presents an abrupt and unpredictable energy.

The planet of the god Uranus can also be associated with science, computer science, robotics, inventions, astrology, electricity, anarchy.

Considerations about our origins

What we cannot deny is that our origin is directly related to the origin of the stars . The ancients knew it, and we know it today.

We look at the sky, and we wonder what will be the story that tells us this vast and imposing universe . This story that we are part of, and that influences us day by day.

What part of the story are we responsible for today? What is the role and meaning of our existence?

Perhaps the answer is also written in the stars, in the same way that our origin is related.

And we, from Earth, contemplate it yearning.
