The ketogenic diet may help cancer treatment

Welcome to all, dear readers of the great community of the White Brotherhood. Today I want to share with you some conclusions derived from an investigation I have made regarding the ketogenic diet to treat cancer, since it is a topic that is winning popularity and of which however there is still a lot of misinformation.

Cancer is a terrible disease that takes more lives every day. In fact, it is the second cause of death in Spanish-speaking countries. It is only surpassed by cardiovascular diseases. In addition, studies and statistics in this regard suggest that this problem, far from diminishing, will continue to increase.

It is therefore important that all of us, of course, begin to take the appropriate measures to prevent and treat it properly. The ketogenic diet has recently emerged as a promise to treat some types of cancer but is this true?

Well, first let's review what the ketogenic diet really is

What is the ketogenic diet?

The ketogenic diet reduces the carbohydrates we consume to a minimum

The ketogenic diet is a nutritional plan that seeks to eliminate or minimize as much as possible the presence of carbohydrates in food. This is because the body gets its energy mainly from the synthesis of carbohydrates in sugars that are released into the bloodstream.

However, when there are no carbohydrates available, the body begins to gradually change its food source to fat stores. When these are metabolized, they generate ketones instead of sugar and the body enters a state called "ketosis."

The ketogenic diet has become very popular as it is one of the most efficient and fastest ways to lose weight in patients with marked obesity.

What does the ketogenic diet have to do with cancer?

The ketogenic diet lowers blood sugar levels

The cancer cells share, the vast majority, the peculiarity that they can only feed on sugars and glucose from carbohydrate metabolization. When blood sugars begin to be replaced with ketones, malignant cells run out of their main source of energy.

This mechanism is quite simple and it has been proven that in animals it can help treat cancer and decrease its growth and spread rates. However, the studies that have been carried out in humans are not conclusive yet, although we could say that they are promising.

Can cancer be treated only with a ketogenic diet?

No never. Many charlatans of the diets say that it is possible to treat cancer only by eliminating sugars in the blood, but in any case, it is impossible to do this one hundred percent.

The ketogenic diet has no adverse effects, so under medical supervision it is a good option to complement cancer treatment, but under no circumstances can it replace it, as some intend to demonstrate.

It is also important to make it clear that although the ketogenic diet could slow the growth and spread of some cancer cells, and even improve the quality of life of patients, it cannot be expected to eliminate Malignant cells completely or make the cancer go away.

It is important to get away from risk factors

One of the most important risk factors for cancer and diabetes is obesity. Being the ketogenic diet so effective in treating both conditions, in turn it can be a cancer prevention factor.

Finally, we always conclude when it comes to prevention: a healthy diet, staying in our weight, avoiding risk factors and doing physical activity are all essential to minimize the risk of suffering from these diseases.
