Astrology and the five elements

The Astrology: a language of Energy

Although astrology was described in terms of symbolism, karma, synchronicity, psychological functions, planetary "rays, " and so on, astrologers, for the most part, neglected the fundamentals of astrology: energy. In reality, all physical and mental life is a manifestation of energy. When the great astrologer Dane Rudhyar wrote "The planets of a map represent modes of functional activities within an organized totality, " he was referring to the specific energies that operate in each of us. Probably, the reason that we have neglected the energy base of all astrological phenomena is the fact that it is too obvious. Sometimes it seems easier to develop finished schemes and theories than to open our eyes to what is directly in front of us.

The Zodiac Signs as Energy Guidelines

The four elements of astrology (fire, earth, air and water) are the basic building blocks of all material structures and organic hues. Each element represents a basic genre of energy and consciousness that operates within each of us. Just as modern physics showed that energy is matter, these four elements interweave and combine to form all matter. When the spark of life leaves a human body at death, all four elements dissociate and return to their pristine state. It is only life itself, which manifests itself in an organic and living totality, that holds all four elements together. These four are in every person, although each person is consciously more harmonized with some types of energies than others.

A Spiritual Perspective

Everything we see with the physical eyes consists of one or more of the five elements, namely, earth, water, air, fire and ether; and all these five elements are enemies of each other. But with the help of the soul, or because of this ..., the five elements are contained and active in the human body, each manifesting according to their own karmas - in that proportion, but all five elements are active, to a greater degree or minor, in each human body.

The Fire Element - Aries, Leo. Sagittarius

The fire element refers to a universal radiant energy, an energy that is excitable, enthusiastic and that, through light, brings color to the world. I correlate this CG Jung element with the dynamic essence of psychic energy, the energy that flows spontaneously in an inspired, self-motivated way. Marc Edmund Jones equates fire with "personal identity centered experience, " and this explains why people with the dominant fire signs on their maps are so self-concentrated and usually rather impersonal. “Life” channels are created and cannot easily hide their pride about this fact.

The signs of fire are examples of elevated spirits, great faith in themselves, enthusiasm, endless strength and direct honesty. They need a lot of freedom in order to express themselves naturally, and they usually ensure that space by stubborn insistence on their point of view. Fire signs can also direct your energy consciously (though not always consistently) better than other signs. Their willingness to be and to express themselves freely is rather infantiloid in its simplicity, a quality that sometimes seems to captivate others, but that at other times seems offensive to the most cautious and sensitive. Fire sign defects are rarely manifested as a result of bad intentions, but more often simply through lack of personal control and sensitivity to others. They appear rather as stubborn, even overwhelming at times, pouncing on things with such haste that they unintentionally cause destruction or hurt others' feelings.

The Element Air - Aquarius, Gemini and Libra

The air element is the vital energy that was associated with breathing and with what yogis call "prana." The kingdom of the air is the world of archetypal ideas behind the veil of the physical world, the cosmic energy embodied within the specific patterns of thought. It is associated with geometric lines of force, which work through the mind, the energy that models the patterns of things to come. While the signs of fire are interested in wanting something to be, the air signs focus their energy on specific ideas that have not yet materialized, and - concentrating on these ideas - ensure that in time they materialize. Hence, although the air signs are often accused of dreamers without practicality, they play a role in the creation of creation at the broadest social level, since their ideas can in turn come into contact with the lives of millions of people.

Marc E. Jones writes that the air signs deal with "the experience in his interest in theoretical relations." The emphasis on theory and on the concepts of life by air sign people leads them to find the most compatible mode of expression in the air, in words and abstract thinking. The air signs have the ability to detach from the immediate experience of daily life, thus allowing them to obtain objectivity, perspective and a rational approach to everything they do. This detachment also allows them to work effectively with all kinds of people, as they do not believe it is necessary to commit much to the concerns or emotions of other people. The air signs are, in fact, the other sociable ones of all in the sense that they can objectively appreciate the thoughts of other people without considering whether they agree with them.

Naturally, if the air signs take up too much of their abstract ideals and theories, they can become mentally unbalanced and surrender to all kinds of eccentricity and fanaticism. They often lack deep emotion and acceptance of the limitations of the physical body. They can overvalue intellectual competence and refuse to face the fact that ideas must be put to the test to determine if they work, before they can be attributed great value. Thought is such a dominant force in the lives of air signs that they are more easily threatened if their opinions are ignored or the quality of their intellect is discredited.

The Water Element - Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio

Those who have the strongly activated water element on their maps warn from birth that several intangible factors play a greater role in life than is commonly believed. The water signs are in contact with their feelings, harmonized with the nuances and subtleties that many others do not even notice. The water element represents the realm of deep emotion and sentimental responses, ranging from compulsive passions to overwhelming fears, and an overwhelming acceptance and love of creation. Since the feelings, by their very nature, are partially unconscious, the water signs are simultaneously aware of the power of the unconscious mind and they themselves are unaware of much of what really motivates them. When they are harmonized with the deepest dimensions of life with full awareness, they are the most intuitive and psychically sensitive signs. In this case, the signs of water are in contact with the unity of all creation and are capable of helping others through empathic sensitivity towards the feelings of others. However, when, they are not fully aware of their own feelings, they are driven by compulsive desires, irrational fears and great super sensitivity to the slightest threat.

Water signs, like the nature of water itself, have no solidity or form of their own. That is why they are happier when their fluency is channeled and takes the form of another, particularly the signs of land that have the strength on which water can rely and rely. Water signs tend to dislike boasting or strong personalities, such as air and fire signs. They feel very comfortable with those who are more reserved and repressed, which gives them a greater sense of protection and security. This reserve quality of water signs, by the way, is rather deceiving; well, although they are calm outside, there are constantly storms that are prepared at deeper levels and hidden layers that can drag them down. In fact, water signs can sometimes be sensational, since they unconsciously cultivate storms and emotional upheavals if their lives become too monotonous.

The sensitivity of the water signs is so great and so pronounced its vulnerability that, if the emotional reactions are not controlled and channeled properly, that can reach a state of emotional instability and a predisposition to be too easily influenced. by the slightest wind that blows. The sensitivity of water tracks should not be considered a weakness however, since water has great strength and penetrating power for a long period, especially when channeled in a concentrated manner.

Finally, the water element corresponds to the process of gaining consciousness through a slow but sure understanding of the deepest longings of the soul. The water signs know instinctively that they must be protected from external influences in order to ensure the inner calm necessary for deep reflection and the subtlety of perception. Understanding the true nature of your emotions and desires is a slow and often painful process, but to the extent that you want to face your true motivations, you are sure to increase the inner content with the course of the years. you.

The Earth Element Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo

A harmonization of this element indicates that the individual is in contact with the physical senses and the reality of here and now of the material world. Earth signs tend to rely more on their senses and their practical reason than on the inspirations, theoretical considerations or intuitions of the other signs. They are harmonized with the world of the forms that the senses and the practical mind consider as real, and their innate understanding of how the material world works gives the earth signs more patience and self-discipline than the other signs. You rarely have to tell them how to adapt to the world of making a living, provide for basic needs and persist until you reach a goal. All these qualities come naturally to those of the earth element.

Although the earth element is one of the passive or “receptive” elements, this element, like water, has strength of resistance and persistence that allows the earth signs to always take care of themselves. Although they are not partially affirmative, they manifest themselves when “theirs” is in danger or their safety is threatened. And because of their efficiency, they are able not only to manifest themselves but also to act in rather concrete ways to ensure that what they worked for is not taken away. The earth element tends to be cautious, premeditated, rather conventional, and unusually reliable. In general, they are suspicious or hesitant about more vivacious or mentally agile people, and react to air signs with some degree of reserve, even if they fascinate them somewhat.

Committing to the practical world can often limit your imagination if you rely too much on things as they are or appear to be. This can lead to a narrow perspective, a fondness for routine and order, and a total lack of ability to deal with the abstract and theoretical realms of the activity. More than anything else, the earth signs need to overcome the reality of the invisible world and engage in specific ideals as guides of their activity.
