We all have old towels at home, don't throw them away

The material of the common bath towels is great for the reconfection of garments or accessories.

Just follow these simple steps and you will get a new mat for your bathroom, very beautiful and comfortable.

Following the current trend of recycling and reusing materials at home, today we will learn how to make, in a very simple way a mat or shower mat .

Brand mats often do not dry or absorb moisture well and it is difficult to wash them. On the contrary, a mat made of towel cloth is super absorbent and in addition it will not cost you any amount of money, if you reuse that stack of old towels that you have at home.

Do we start

Cutting up

Start by tracing and cutting towel strips. If they are wide enough, you will achieve a robust and very comfortable touch mat.

Preferably, use clean towels and trace strips of four to eight centimeters on them, depending on how thick you want the mat .

Mark them using the longest side of the towel as a reference, in order to obtain manageable strips for the next step.

It is important that you take care and patience at this stage of the process, because the towel cloth is usually very thick and it is certainly not as easy to cut it as another type of material would be. You need big scissors and with a good edge.

Try to make the cuts of your towels outside your home, because this process inevitably causes the material to fray generating dirt. Cut the towels one by one, to avoid hurting your hands with scissors. The thicker the layer of fabric, the stronger you will have to print the cut.

We also suggest you choose three towel colors that combine with the decoration of your bathroom, although if you make your single-colored mat it will also look very nice.

Twisted

The next step is very simple and fun. Join three of the towel strips with a pair of stitches and then make a braid. When you reach the end, just sew another three strips to the previous ones and continue.

Once you have ready the towel strips, start by joining three of them with thread and needle. So you can start knitting a common braid with them.

When you approach the opposite end of the strips, sew a new strip in each segment to continue braiding. Here we show you how to make your mat with conventional braiding of three segments, but you can innovate with braids of four or more strips to give your mat a different look.

It is also important that, when braiding, you go squeezing the fabric so that it is firm at the end and does not open easily. Once you have finished braiding all the strips, firmly sew the end end, to prevent your work from falling apart.

Union of the mat

When you have the entire braid ready, it will be time to shape it.

Here we show you the round version, but you can give it the shape you like, be it square, rectangular or even the boldest shapes, all according to your imagination.

Start by taking one end of the braid. With needle and thread, just go making small stitches as you roll so that the mat is taking shape.

You do not need to sew along the entire length of the segments but you must make firm or double stitches so that it does not fall apart when you use it or put it in the washing machine.

Use thread of the same color to make it look better. And ready. Now you can enjoy a beautiful mat for your bathroom, with a very colorful and very comfortable design, because you will love the softness and absorption of feeling your feet low when leaving the shower.

It is very easy to wash and we assure you that it will look amazing at the foot of the shower. We hope you will be encouraged to make one with your old towels . I already have mine.
