Frequently asked questions:

Who is Amma?

Sri Mara Amritanandamayi, affectionately known as Amma or Mother, is revered throughout the world as one of the most outstanding humanitarian and spiritual leaders of our time. His simple and profound message of love and service has inspired, elevated and united people of all nationalities and beliefs, reviving in them his fundamental unity in the Spirit. With her global vision, Amma works tirelessly for individuals and communities through her spiritual activities and humanitarian projects.

What are Amma's spiritual beliefs?

Although I was born within the Hindu culture and many of the rituals and external symbols belong to that tradition, Amma is not ascribed to any formal religion. Every time she is asked, she says that her religion is Love. Through her life, her work and her teachings Amma guides people towards this fundamental truth. `` Love has no limitations on caste, religion, race or nationality, '' explains Amma. We are all beads strung together in the same thread of love. Recognizing this unity and bringing love to others, which is our inherent nature, is the true goal of human life. Undoubtedly, love is the only religion that can help humanity rise to this high and glorious end.

What does Amma say about the other religions?

Amma believes that the truth underlying all religions is the same, that a single Love shines through all traditions. She never asks people to change their religion of beliefs, but to deepen their current faith. In fact, he does not even ask people to believe in God, but to delve into his true nature.
Amma says: Seeing the outside of religion creates more and more division. We need to see and understand the interior, the essence of religion, from a spiritual perspective. Only then will the feeling of division end. Where there is division there can be no real spiritual experience and where there is spiritual experience there can be no division, only unity and love.

Why do you visit Amma Spain?

Amma visits Spain as part of its annual world tour, which covers the United States, Europe, Latin America, Japan and Australia. In India, Amma's compassion has inspired hundreds of thousands of people to devote their time and talent to helping those who have great needs, regardless of their caste, language or religion. This has led to the development of many important health, educational, social and ecological projects. These are some examples:

• Educational programs and vocations: Amma has founded 53 schools, such as some for youth and children belonging to tribes with speech and hearing problems. In his university there are faculties of medicine, engineering, management, biotechnology, computer science, ayurveda and journalism.
• Health services: Amma's superspecialized hospital, the internationally recognized AIMS and its four affiliated hospitals, provide free care to the poor. Two centers for the care of terminally ill patients and one specialized in the care of patients with AIDS.

• Housing for the poor: 30, 000 houses built since December 2007, with the goal of building 95, 000 more. It is intended to build another 6, 200 more for tsunami victims.

• Lifetime payments: Amma aims to allocate 100, 000 lifetime payments to meet the essential needs of children and adults with mental and physical disabilities, as well as for women who have been widowed or are heads of household.

Amma strongly encourages people to do selfless service in their own countries and communities.
